Gary Johnson voters will be voting in 2020. If you split the Johnson vote from 2016 between Trump and Biden, here's the percentage needed to flip the following states.

New Hampshire - 54.45%

Minnesota - 69.73%

Maine - 79.06%

Nevada - 86.38%

New Mexico - 93.98%

Colorado - 97.32%

This obviously doesn't account for enthusiasm of the base, new voter turnout, and flipping voters from the opposite party. The Johnson vote will be a huge factor in these light blue states. How many of these states, if any, do you see turning red?

For me it's NH, MN, and ME. Thoughts?

Amash bowing out makes me think the internals confirm the LP candidate may hurt the DEMs more this time

i figured Amash would hurt Trump more, but there was some polling that said the opposite and then a week later he declines to run

If Trump runs on legalizing weed, Gary Johnson will not be a factor except for the true loons.

I agree. I’m a simple man, if I see an R next to someone’s name that’s who I pick. No need to think for myself. A think-tank in Washington has already done it for me. The deficit will get solved as long as I keep checking that R box.

Mondale's home state and he only won it by around 3700 votes.

It's interesting to note that DC was only 13% for Reagan. Even in 1984 it was a hellhole of progressive filth.

Have always and will always vote Libertarian every chance I get. How anyone can view current events and think that Rs or Ds have answers is beyond me? It's the definition of insanity.

Voted Johnson because I wanted the LP to get above the 5% threshold so they could get funding and perhaps build the third party coalition we desperately need in this country.

That being said, I will be voting Trump 2020. I cant see too many L voters going D.

Gary Johnson voters will go for Trump at about a 90/10 clip compared to Biden.

I think Johnson would have always had the majority of the L vote, but got a lot more of the independent/undecided share in 2016 than was typical for an L candidate. There was a sizable proportion of the population who found both Trump and HRC so unpalatable that it either led them to cast votes for 3rd party candidates or not vote and all.

I don’t see that being nearly as much of an issue in 2020. A big chunk of 2016 3rd party voters won’t vote 3rd party again, and I’d expect the majority of those votes will go to Trump. Same for a lot those who abstained in 2016 rather than vote 3rd party. That could be enough on its own to flip at least a state or two from blue to red, notwithstanding the potentially greater impact if even a small percentage of actual D votes from 2016 turn to R votes in 2020.
