This is more geared to all these daily threads about liked stocks etc.
Curious as to how long (or short) most of you aim for with these stocks. Do most of you monitor the market on an hourly basis?

Depends on the stock. If I think it has a future, just buy and forget about it. FSLY for instance. I check it but only to buy more when if it dipped.
If it's a swing trade I monitor them closely to see if it's time to take some profits.

At least a year. Short term capital gains are ordinary income.

Most of the stocks that shoot up quickly are pump and dump stocks.
Think to yourself, if millions of people are buying, what percentage of those people will get out when the stock begins to drop? There you have your judgement to exit.

Generally speaking, I have an alert set for a 50 % gain. At that point I get a feel for how that stock is doing vs the general market. If I hold multiple lots (200) or more shares I consider selling 1/2 of it. I do pay attention to short term vs long term but have no set rule.
The above is for my play, fun, entertainment account. My retirement accounts are pretty much index funds that I review every quarter for rebalancing.
