The Saints will be a battle-tested 11-5 this year

Back end of that schedule is brutal. 11 wins would be quite the accomplishment. My prediction: saints will be a team no one wants to catch in the playoffs on the way to a super bowl win

I said the same last year. LOL

and exactly how often are teams as good as they were predicted to be all based on conjecture?
every year gimme sure win games turn into slug fest nail biters and expected loses turn into blowout wins
any given sunday isnt just a cute saying, its true

I see 12-4. Back end isn’t that bad. But I still think we lose a game or two we shouldn’t.

Mike Clay has us projected to be favored in all 16 games, win the most games in the NFL, and have the largest positive points differential.
People always freak out about schedules.

Ah. Preseason strength of schedule is such a beautiful thing that means jack and shite when the games actually get played.
We had what the 2nd toughest "preseason strength of schedule" last year and tied the franchise record for wins. With Brees MISSING 5 GAMES. And a few of those games were considered the toughest on our schedule based on last year's records.
We don't play last year's records this year. Every team (well almost) has a legit shot to shoot straight to the top or fall straight to the bottom. The only true constant every year has been the Pats and that's about to get tested big time.

I hope I'm wrong, but I feel an 8-8 9-7 type season approaching.
17' 18' & 19' were your shot to get back.
How many more heartbreaks can you endure?

Exactly. I feel like we’re likely to fall back a little after 37 wins in 3 seasons. We’ll still be solid. Just need to play our best later in year.

Yeah I can see that and I have no issue with an 11-5 prediction (or any prediction you try to justify with something concrete).
I just think it's folly to only look at last year's records when making these predictions.
Coaching changes, qb changes, scheme changes, new big name fas, losing big name players, etc. all have a MUCH higher factor than what record teams finished with.

I should have been more specific when I said backend. It's the travel as well and cold weather games. (I know the saints play great on the road and won in Philly) but can drew hold up through that stretch? I think that's a legit concern at this point too

12-4.
If they are laser focused and want that 1 seed, 13-3.
Tough stretches, sure. But we went 5-0 against a tough stretch without Brees last year. We have the best record over the past 3 seasons for a reason.

I can see that. And I don't want you to think I was "attacking" you personally. This is a more general argument I fight against every year when the schedule drops. Everyone almost immediately turns to sos from last year and tries to make predictions off of that.
And I get that it's the easy route to take. It just rubs me the wrong way that people use something that means so little though. But the media does it too and fans follow suit.
Not really an anger thing, just more of a wtf why use that thing.

Saints are loaded and made some nice free agents signings and a smart draft.
I see 4 more wins than 8-8

The only way we have an 8-8 or 9-7 season is if we have some crazy, crazy injuries happen.
I can’t see losing Nolan, Bell, Klein and Ginn being the reasons we drop 4-5 more games.
This isn’t like 2014. We have the best roster in the NFL. And with Allen, there’s enough sustained success there that suggests we will struggle some games but be competent most of the time, unlike with Rob Ryan. Offense will be fine as long as Brees hasn’t dropped off a cliff. Brees being completely washed and/or Injuries are the only way we go 8-8 or 9-7

We were a 13-3 team last year.
This offseason where have we gotten weaker?
I see:
QB - same as last year
RB - same as last year
WR - major upgrade
OL - slight upgrade due to depth
DL - same as last year perhaps slight upgrade with some young guys gaining experience.
LB - same as last year
CB - same as last year
S - slight upgrade
ST - same as last year

saints need to find that running game balance again this year. Murray needs more than 146 carries
