it's not an indictment on that at all. the job stout and brown did amazingly is sports marketing and sports branding. that's why they will be heads of football video production.

believe it or not, there is a bit of a stigma of "liking sports" in the film industry. if you're a sports producer, you'll have a hard time landing a job on anything other than sports or at best reality tv. it's not exactly fair, but it's consistent. people don't allow you to make jumps from documentaries to feature films either.

so it's not that USC can't develop film school students. Their students go on to win academy awards and shoot marvel films. it's that their film students don't give a frick about shooting a hype video for a football team, because they're interested in telling their own stories, or getting paid MILLIONS to tell someone else's.

ETA: don't know why this is getting downvoted. nothing i said here is untrue.

If the NCAA were ethical and intellectually honest, Stout would be ineligible to make any videos for a year.
