The Postal Service operates in an antiquated system which needs revamping for the 21st Century. Sadly, however, it is too political to touch.
For example, my subdivision, like many across the country, is still a walking route!! How wasteful and inefficient!! Where practicable, all routes should be mail truck routes with boxes on the curb. Think of the MILLIONS OF DOLLARS WHICH COULD BE SAVED!!!!!!!!!

Automatic postage machines should be everywhere. No one should have to stand in line to buy stamps, mail a letter, etc.

Judging by our mailbox about 90% of the mail we receive are advertisements, credit card offers, offers to re-mortgage, etc... It is my understanding that a lot of this mail is given a bulk rate which is cheaper than I can mail something. How about starting with raising mail prices so everyone pays the same? Direct mailing must be effective for these companies or they wouldn't do it. They will pay it.
4 Days a week would be a good start. Would also be interested in seeing them be accountable for slow service. Is there anything worse than waiting 45 minutes or more to mail a package at the post office. We use UPS or Fedex because getting a package into the mail system is just a mess too often.

All government agencies should be self supporting and not constantly operating in red like Postal Service

Who pays for them?
Who maintains them?
Do any connected politicians have access to these contracts to build and maintain them?
How will I get my Amazon packages without having to go to the post office since I now have essentially a PO Box in my neighborhood?
Also aren’t these things hot beds of mail theft?
I just love it when people think they have a solution that they think saves money, but costs more in the long run and is more of a hassle.

I have used the USPS Tracking on a couple of packages.
It tells you where your package is,every 12 hrs.Then tells you it's out for delivery.The second the Postal Driver keys in "Delivered',It changes on USPS Tracking to "Delivered".
I'm about 10 years behind the times with everything.So,I figure it's the same with this.

The history of the post office is very interesting. The management jobs were political patronage back in the 18th century. Attempts by private services to compete with the post office were quashed by govt.

This is the greatest invention. The one you can use to mail packages. I use it even if there is no one in line when I go in the post office.

It all centers around one question: should the postal service be in the business of making money, or should it be a government-subsidized service designed to let Americans quickly, cheaply, and reliably send letters and packages to anywhere in the world.
Either one will require an act of congress as they are not allowed to make their own rules.
If you want them to make money they need to be able to set their own prices - as it is USPS charges almost HALF of what UPS/FEDEX do for smaller packages and letters.
A key talking point for Dems is the USPS has to "fund retirement and benefits for the next 75 years, even for workers not born yet." This is a complete myth. The USPS has to fund their employee's benefits the same exact way a private company does - the biggest difference is that a private company could cut/change health coverage to save money and USPS can not.
Essentially the biggest issue with the USPS is that they're forced (by congress) to act as though they are a private, money-making business that cannot set its own prices. Its baffling and asinine but what isn't in DC.

I may sound like an employee, but sometimes businesses make stubborn business decisions that look good on paper but just don't make logical sense. Then the employee suffers from the business's bad decision making.
The way I look at things is much different than looking at things on paper in dollars and cents.
The postal service is in trouble because the government mandated them to future fund pensions for the next 75 years at a cost of nearly 5 billion a year. Most pensions systems have a reserve fund and pay benefits using pension contributions from current workers and employers/agencies. The contribution from employers or government agencies changes from year to year depending on the reserve fund's market returns, number of retirees, number of contributing members, etc. It is the same as Social security but on a smaller scale. Actually, some government agencies prefer pensions because Social Security taxes are higher than what it costs to contribute to these pensions.
By all means, I am no way supporting a loaded government of bloated bureaucrats that do nothing (if a job is obsolete then it is time to end it), but there is a fine line where one can cut government workers before you run into other issues with pensions funds needing more state dollars because fewer workers are paying into these pension funds.

Usually those are taken care of by a HOA or apartment complex.

Usually they are left at an office. Of course with many offices being closed due to COVID-19, then you may have an issue.

Under the old CSRS the rates were higher but the employees couldn't collect Social Security unless they have a private sector job where they paid in. (And then, they suffer a BIG offset.)
Under the current FERS employees pay into Social Security and get it along with a much smaller pension. (It also added the TSP -- our 401k -- to the mix with matching contributions.)

I was basing this on Louisiana State Retirement and not federal.
But Congress screwed the postal service either way.
One suggestion, I could recommend is 3 day delivery of First Class Letter Mail to residential addresses and 5 day letter delivery to businesses and seven day delivery on parcels or express mail service since Amazon is pushing delivery services in that direction.
