Ziggy completely ruins season 2. Makes it unwatchable.

Horrible character but I’m one of the few who likes season 2.

That said they could have cut him out and still made the same story by making Nick, Franks son instead of a cousin.

I hate Ziggy as well, and season 2 is my least favorite, but “All Prologue” is one of the most underrated episodes of television I have ever seen.

I think almost everyone whose seen the Wire more than once loves season 2

I wouldn’t consider yourself part of “a few”.

I didn’t know that. I’m not sure where I got it from but for some reason I thought season 2 was viewed as the ugly stepsister of season 1.

Kind of. It’s the most divisive season for sure, I just mean like it’s not a rare opinion to like it.

And I think the people who don’t like it, simply weren’t ready for the plot/scenery change since it was the first one the show did. Which is why I say most people who rewatch the wire end up loving season 2

I hated Ziggy the first time I watched The Wire, but on rewatching it, I think he’s a wonderfully drawn character. He has this desperate desire to fit in, to be “the man," to be noticed on his own terms that he misunderstands what it means to be a man. He’s sort of a cosmic joke, for reasons he can’t understand. There is a great scene with Ziggy and his father that I can’t seem to find, but it seemed to represent this notion that they never understood each other, that Ziggy desperately wanted his father’s story approval and didn’t understand why he couldn’t get it. I also thought the scene where Ziggy kills the Greek dude, after finally being tired of being trampled on, moved from the realm of realism to the realm of the impressionistic, it being one of the few meaningful interruptions of filmic style in the whole series, represented Ziggy finally understanding why he was the way he was.

Isn’t it also amazing that the writing and performance was so tight and well-executed that the thematic elements of a character are completely obliterated by everyone who watches the show. He was meant to annoy all of us, and virtually everyone I’ve ever talked to about the show hated his character, which, for me, was among the most realistically drawn and fully fleshed out characters in a series full of wonderfully complicated characters. I’ve known dudes like Ziggy, well-meaning frick-ups who couldn’t get out of their own way, and more tragically, didn’t understand how they got in their own way in the first place. His tragedy is somewhat ubiquitous among young men in my experience, and the heartbreak of the situation is that Ziggy couldn’t go to Princeton (or wherever) like the son of the dude who took Frank’s bribes, he felt forced to act to prove himself before he even understood anything about himself.

Actually that is a popular opinion but I actually like the Ziggy character and season 2 is by far and away the greatest.

You want a real hot take?
Brother Mouzone is a horrible character and so out of place for the show

Also There are some horribly cheesy and forced "deep" lines through out the show

i think hes great. alot of people have that shite head friend whos always getting into trouble, alot like De Niro in Mean Streets. his scenes at the end of the season really get to me. season 2 is fantastic.

the acting is def a little rough around the edges tho, however

I’ll stomach season two being behind 134, even though it’s wrong, but season 2 is in a different class than season 5. Ziggy isn’t that annoying

1243.....5 is my order

Season 1 is some of the best tv ever created but they lost me season 2. I’ll have to go back and finish one day

Season 2 is underrated. You hate Ziggy but that’s the point. Love the steveadore story line. Didn’t even know what the hell a stevedore was until I watched the wire.
