I work for a subcontractor. I wonder if next time I'm awarded a job, I can just go ahead and bill for some of it before it even starts.

For my company, it was because residential customers kept ordering jobs and then bailing on us after we had already produced custom materials. We now require a 50% deposit on all residential jobs.
