Sports betting legislation will be approved in 2021. They couldn’t figure out how to tax and regulate it in 2019.
Now Mary Jane? Might take 10 more years

Our legislature and populace is made up of complete idiots that claim to love freedom but actually just want to legislate their own morality.
Sports Betting is coming. Two years too late but it is coming.
Marijuana...not anytime soon. Probably either the 49th or 50th state. Even if the Feds declassified Louisiana wouldn't.

It just makes no sense to me that Louisiana is not first in line to legalize marijuana and sports betting. The state could make so much money from those two enterprises, yet somehow I get the feeling Louisiana isn't planning on legalizing either any time soon.
The Sheriff's lobby group is a big part of that in this state. They will hold onto their civil asset forfeiture and pool of slave labor (plus prisoner stipends) until the bitter end.

Give me sports betting NOW. I can continue to find the other from friends who make constant trips to where it is legal and acceptable.

But if we legalize those, then how will the Democrats warrant the need of more federal money for their voters?

I was really shocked that the northshore was leading the charge against sports betting. I don't get that. Figured it would central and north LA baptist-ville.

Taking bong rips while studying point spreads seems like a sure avenue to big profits.

The legislature is the governor’s puppet. They are a formality. What the governor wants is what will make him, his supporters, and his friends wealthy. There is a lot of money being made under the current system, so until the political class finds that they personally would make more money with change than they do under status quo, nothing will change.
What’s stopping sports betting is actually people who want sports betting. Seems insane? Of course it is. Last year, the legislature proposed legalizing sports gambling in all the licensed casinos (riverboats and Harrah’s). John Georges didn’t like that plan because he owns a shite ton of little truck stop casinos and video poker machines. He wanted it legal anywhere there were video poker machines. Initially, JBE was on the side of the casinos because he was trying to set up a corrupt deal where his family friends would get an unused license from Shreveport to put a casino on the tangipahoa river. JBE’s family owns land adjacent to the casino. If he got his casino, he would legalize sports gambling in casinos. However, the legislature wouldn’t grant him his license, so he used Georges’ influence to oppose the casinos exclusively getting sports gambling and made sure no one got itninstead.

The Louisiana GOP will not support further legalization efforts without further assurances from the federal government that businesses who abide by the rules of the state’s legal regime won’t face prosecution from the feds, and that whether they will or won’t won’t be subject to change based on presidential elections.
They don’t like the idea of businesses risking capital investing in legal weed only for the feds to f$&k them, causing those businesses to sue the state for detrimental reliance. I think it’s a short-sighted strategy, but I see their point.

Weed could help our state’s infrastructure so much.

The northshore still has all the bible beaters it used to have, and most of the suburbanite newcomers don't give a shite about weed or gambling.
