Are there any programs out there to help with loss income for Short term rentals?
My dad has a few units in New Orleans and is getting destroyed on them. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

My dad has a condo in FL and depends on the rentals through Wyndham to pay the mortgage. He applied for the Cares Act but hasn’t heard anything past getting a claim number.

Was a front page article in today's WSJ on this issue. Owners are being destroyed. Leverage is a real bitch in a situation like this.

Sooo anything we can do? What did the article say? I assume it behind a paywall?

Should people receive relief for this?

Man this is a really big issue that is being forgotten about.
The management companies and cleaning services that care after these properties are also taking a beating.
My housekeeper had a crew of girls that went from cleaning 30-40 air BnB's in NOLA to zero....she had to let them go find their own work and since some of them were undocumented they cant apply for unemployment or get a stimulus check.
Luckily my girl is legal, although she doesn't speak very good English, she has a few homeowners that are keeping her busy but with everyone being home these days people are cleaning their own homes.
She's going after doctors and medical workers since those are the only people that are working and can afford a housekeeper.

I want to say no. If you over leverage yourself and reap the rewards during the good times, you should be prepared to face the consequences in the bad times.
But corporate America has been doing this for a long time and was emboldened to continue to do it after they were bailed out in 2008.
So I guess f@k it, it’s time for the little guy to get a break too. Bail errybody out

It's sad that people feel entitled to a bailout after over-leveraging themselves.
Pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered. Your dad shouldn't have been so greedy.
He should sell his properties before going bankrupt.

Saw in in hard copy. I expect the digital version is behind their paywall.
As I recall, it mainly focused on the plight of the owners in several different situations. Don't recall much talk of government help, but it discussed some of the things AirBnB was doing, including how it handled cancellations.

I dont recall all those condo's along the Gulf Coast getting a bailout after the oil spill..matter of fact I remember hearing storied about people not getting their deposits back for cancelling.

Yeah my first instinct is no as well.
A landlord assumes risk when they buy the property. Rent is never guaranteed.

I don’t think he’s too worried about that

I don’t think calling him “greedy” is the right term at all. He’s a very successful businessman and has his hand in different revenue streams.

So you were just checking to see if your dad could get any money that he doesn't need?
Posted on 4/29/20 at 12:23 pm to Eric Nies Grind Time
I’m not saying he needs or doesn’t need it. All of his business’ were hit hard bc of this. As I’m sure a lot of other business owners were. I was simply asking a question out of my own curiosity.

The more you post, the worse it gets.
Tell your dad to take his licks and move on.

So if I own a small business, you're good with me being entitled to government help, PPP, utilities, rent, etc...
But if I own short term rentals, frick me?
