I can only assume that the “Mark” of the woodcutter is seen as something similar to a brand on cattle, meaning that she belongs to someone else.

Lay back on the bed and pull the dress up to your waist i guess. I would assume its a big gruesome scar/symbol on her lower abdomen that we will eventually get to see. I would normally agree the guy wouldn't care, but he does have enough money and prestige to warrant a bride from France so he can get someone else. Plus we all like her the best because she appeals to our 21st century ideals of beauty and is not a bitch like the curly blonde. Another quality episode. Can't believe the money they spend on sets and costumes for a History channel show.
