My wife and I have tent camped all over Arkansas, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado. We have never paid more than $20 per night.

The average is probably $10 and many are FREE.

Though we live in Baton Rouge, we do not camp in Louisiana.

With Bogue Chitto at $33/night and Chicot at $25 you can forget it! I’ll happily hall my arse to Mississippi and pay $7/night.

End of rant.

Well those are the rates for RV campsites with water and electrical hookups. Bogue Chitto doesn't show tent camping rates on their website, but Chicot's site shows $9 for backcountry tent camping

You're going to drive all the way to Mississippi to save $18 a night?

The problem is, those upland sites are the best ones, and they don't have non hookup pricing.

This is all I see on the site:

81 Premium Campsites (prime locations and pull through, all with water and electrical hookup); sites 101-135 are located on water, while sites 1-46 have sewer hookups.
(map of upland sites, 001-046) (map of bottomland sites, 101-135)

$33/night plus tax, Fri-Sat
$30/night plus tax, Sun-Thurs, Apr-Sept
$25/night plus tax, Sun-Thurs, Oct-Mar

If traveling from Baton Rouge, Homochitto in Mississippi is about 5-10 minutes closer than Bogue Chitto in Louisiana. Both are just under 2 hours.

Do you mind primitive camping? Or do you want bath houses, picnic tables, etc?

If you're OK with primitive, look into camping on some WMA's. Free to use as long as you have either an LA hunting or fishing license or Wild Louisiana stamp. Sherburne and Tunica Hills WMA's both have campsite areas and are less than an hour from BR.

just need flat ground and a fire pit. Thanks I'll look into this!

I never understood how people camped at Tunica since there's no campground or state park.

Looks up Tunica Hills WMA on LDWF site. There's a map online. The area where camping is allowed is on the south tract off of Parker Rd.

They have a port-a-potty out there but thats about it. You can make a camp fire and you'll probably have the place to yourself or maybe one other tent outside of hunting season.

FYI though, Tunica Hills WMA is closed to the general public this weekend for their turkey lottery hunt. But weekdays or any weekend outside of April you're good.
