Pistol Pete Maravich is the greatest ball handler, passer, and scorer in basketball history, at any level! His college scoring record will never be taken away from him! He was 100 years ahead of his time, maybe forever.
THE GOAT!!!!!
THE GOAT!!!!!

This is stupid! It’s not even an argument Pistol Pete was the greatest college player of all time
What is sad and sick is the sportwriters today try to downplay how great Pete was, when most of them probably were too young to ever see him play live.
To hell with them! Pete was the best, no contest what he could do on a basketball court with a ball in his hands!

I was there for that game and the one when he blew out his knee with a behind the back thru the legs pass from half court..
Great old memories... and sad...
I was 23 at the time..

When choosing the best collegiate basketball player ever, Pete Maravich is a given. His scoring records will never be broken, even with a three-point line, a shot clock, and the ability to play as a freshman. Despite terrible knee problems and a battle with alcoholism, Maravich still is one of the 50 best players in NBA history. In many games, he wore a clunky, primitive knee brace that weighed around five pounds. And, as others have mentioned, the three-point shot just entered the NBA before his retirement. He only took 15 three-pointers in his career....and made 10 of them! For those younger posters, everyone growing up wanted to be Pistol Pete. Kids wore floppy socks, mimicked his creative passing, dribbling, and offensive moves. And, even coaches began implementing Maravich’s drills in practices and during offseason workouts. Before Pete Maravich, LSU basketball might as well have been played outside, as attendance and attention to the program was laughable. Maravich single-handedly changed LSU basketball and the way the very game was played.

I love all three and I was fortunate to see two of them play. These three are the trinity of LSU Basketball but Pete stands at the top of the list IF we have to rank them.

Maravich and it's not even close. His NCAA scoring record is 400 points ahead of the next closest guy and he did it without a 3 point line AND he played in an era where freshman were not part of the varsity team so that entire season doesn't count toward his record. If you add Pistol's freshman season in, he'd be TWELVE HUNDRED POINTS ahead of the next closest guy who DID get to count all four years.
Anyone who answers anything other than Maravich is depriving their village of an idiot by wasting time posting here.

The Pistol. Not close. Next question?

If the game was officiated correctly, shaq would have fouled out EVERY player that defended him, college and pro. He was a victim of goliath syndrome by the refs, who allowed any and all defenders to mercilessly hack him constantly, with only a fraction of the legit fouls actually called. He was probably the toughest player to officiate in the history of basketball.

See the name on the building. The most dominating player in any sport in LSU history in my opinion. He was unstoppable. He could pass, shoot, defend his position, rebound, shoot FTs - just do it all especially when he knew the game was on the line.
UNTIL OPPOSING FANS CARRY A PLAYER FROM THE OPPOSITION OFF THE FIELD IN ANY SPORT AFTER HE BEATS THEM, IT WILL FOREVER BE PETE.
This tells you everything you need to know.

"I was at the Tulane game when he went for 66," Higgins said. "And they were cheering FOR him. This was Tulane, which hates LSU. Everywhere he went, people cheered for him and went crazy for him. Everywhere he went, he won over crowds. When it was all happening, you were so dazzled that when he scored 35 in a game, you thought he had a terrible game."
It was appointment viewing, but in person.
Adams was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1971 after graduating in Journalism from LSU and was stationed in Fort Riley, Kansas.
"I was in the mess hall one day and I'm talking to this guy who said he went to Georgia," Adams said. "When I told him I went to LSU, his face just lit up."
The soldier told Adams about seeing Maravich score 58 points at Georgia on March 8, 1969, in a 90-80 LSU win in overtime.
With the ball and leading by eight with about a minute to go, Maravich took over. It was "Showtime." He dribbled around, avoiding defenders and killing the clock. Just before the buzzer and nearly out of bounds, he launched a 35-foot hook shot. And it was good.
Georgia's fans and cheerleaders rushed the floor and mobbed Maravich as if one of their own.
"He said he was one of the fans running on the court to congratulate Pete," Adams said. "He didn't care whether the Bulldogs won or lost. He was so proud to have seen Pete play such a great game in person."
Maravich Madness was all about being there.
"You couldn't get the full impact of Pete on television," Adams said. "When you saw him in person, you could see how he operated on the entire court with his passes and with the other players."

quote:. Same for Pete. You have no clue the beatings he took in college and pros. Plus they would call “carry” where today the “cross over” is not. He also, had t ok fight the hate from black players - no shite.

Pistol easy. Research was done on Pete's footage and it was determined that he would have averaged 7.8 3,s per game.

You would absolutely never know anything about Pete. Go do a little research and reply as to why you would pick Pete over Shaq. Read the Pistol book.
