Put down 3 pallets of Geo Zoysia on 4/11

I mentioned in another thread that I put down a few pallets of Geo in a pretty shaded area and a few people asked for a thread to track the progress. I've got s small backyard but each side gets pretty different amounts of sun so it should provide a lot of info as to just how well it performs in 3-4 hours of direct sun vs 6-8.
These pictures are from today (4/14).
This side gets sun almost all day, except for the evening so it should do just fine.
This side is on the opposite side of the house and it gets afternoon and evening shade so it should also do fine. I could see the portion behind the AC having trouble.
This is the back and this will be the telling section. It only gets about 3-4 hours of direct sunlight, which is the advertised minimum. Let's see if it's as advertised.

Update: One month out
So far so good. It's still early, but the heavily shaded areas are actually doing really well. I went out of town for a couple days and we had some really hot days while I was out. I took these right when I got back home, so the edges that look stressed have since greened back up.
The side that's doing the best is the one that gets evening shade which isn't surprising. I've upped the water for the side that gets solely afternoon and evening shade.
When they say it grows low and slow they aren't kidding. I have a push reel mower and have dropped it as low as it will go and it's still not low enough to cut some spots. It's definitely growing, it just grows almost straight sideways.

Thanks for posting. I’ll be keeping up with the progress.

What did you do to prep? Did they suggest fert? If not I have a suggestion.

For prep I cleared all the old grass (mostly weeds), put down some topsoil on some low spots to help level, and then put out some insecticide and Humic acid a couple days before and watered it into the soil.
They did not suggest a fertilizer. I have some 16-4-8 on hand, but mainly use that on my Bermuda in front. I’d love to hear any recommendations you have for this zoysia.

16-4-8 would be fantastic on your zoysia. Wait until after your second mow to use it

I will piggy back your thread.
I'm clearing this spot in my back yard and getting it ready for sod. I've spread 15 yards of fill dirt already, with 40 more yards coming tomorrow to be spread. Then I'll lay 3 pallets of Palisades zoysia. The area gets about 3-4 hours direct sunlight scattered through the day. I don't mind cutting more trees if I have to.
Where in Birmingham did you find Geo zoysia? I've only been able to find palisades. Price?

I ended up buying through Sod Solutions, but a local place (Coshatts) were the ones who delivered it. It was $1000 for three pallets and delivery.

Just an FYI for anyone reading this thread Sod solutions has a measuring tool for estimating how much sod you will need. Also, findlotsize has a measuring tool.

be careful with the fill dirt around your older oak trees. Will kill them if you have too much dirt around

Strange, I called Coshatt and they only have emerald zoysia. I'll give sod solutions a call, I found palisades for 195 a pallet but I'm seeing geo is more shade tolerant than palisades.

I reached out to Coshatts before as well and heard the same thing. I think emerald is the only one they grow there, but the driver said they do a lot of delivering for other companies. Sod solutions gets back with a quote pretty quickly though.

It seems palisades and geo are both more shade tolerant than other zoysia. It will be interesting to see how both do in this thread.

just checked with them on 5 different types of Zoysia and they don't have delivery options available for any of them in my area, oh well

1557 for 4 pallets Geo delivered.
125 for delivery
128 in tax
326 a pallet.
Is Geo zoysia 130 bucks a pallet more shade tolerant that palisade?

Geez, mine was almost $1000 even for 3 pallets and I ordered it a few weeks ago.
One big selling point for me was the fact that Geo is fine-bladed. I'm not a fan of wider bladed grass, but that's really just a personal preference. From what I've read, both are about on par when it comes to shade tolerance.

Geo is the most shade tolerant zoysia. If you have 3-4 hours you will be good going with palisades.

Can't wait to find out because my back yard gets about the same.
Your neighbors arborvitae (assuming) look

I for sure get 4 hours but it's spread out. 2 hours in the morning, filtered, then 2 hours in the evening.

Did you read my comment on fertilization in the shade on another thread?
