The real key to LSU Basketball becoming a powerhouse

In my opinion CONSISTENT fan support is what has been holding this team back for years. Most of the stars LSU has had over the past decade have stuck with the team for two years tops. If you look at some of the players LSU has gotten over the past few years there is actually quite a bit of talent there. But guys like Naz Reid, Trendon Watford, Tremont Waters, Antonio Blakeney, Ben Simmons (who should have left obviously), Jarell Martin, Jordan Mickey, etc all left 1 or 2 years in.
LSU has recruited on a level similar to (or better than) schools like Wisconsin, Villanova, Michigan, and UVA but has not had the consistent success of those programs because they can't get guys to stay 3 or 4 years. I remember when Frank Kaminsky decided to stay at Wisconsin for his senior year he stated that the fan support was one of the key reasons he wanted to stay in college. Auburn right now is about to land a top 5 prospect in the country from California in Jalen Green because they have showed they can be a basketball crazy school as well. LSU will never recruit on the level of a Duke or Kentucky but we don't have to. We already get good enough players to be a consistent Sweet 16 level team. Just about giving guys a reason to want to stay at this point.

we need a new facility similar to what the Houston Cougars have.
Wade has been asking for one since he got here.
Let's face it the PMAC is old and close to 14,000 seats is just too many.
Let's get a new facility built that holds about 8,000. It's not what most want to hear but it's what is needed.

Before any of you try to argue here are the stats...............
Villanova's facility holds 6,500.
Auburn's facility 9,600.
VCU's facility 7,600.
Duke's facility holds 9,000.
Houston Cougars facility holds 7,100 and makes the PMAC look like a damn dump.
The PMAC is done.

There isn’t a single program in the country who would’ve kept any of these guys for longer than they stayed at LSU. The one-and-done rule has largely ruined college basketball and makes it 100x harder to get fan support when you have new faces every single year.
Obviously you have the basketball blue bloods and big conferences drawing in a ton of fans as they always have, but the current state of CBB makes it almost impossible to build big-time fan support at a school that doesn’t already have it

How did UVA keep Kyle Guy so long? Or Villanova Jalen Brunson? Or Wisconsin Sam Dekker and Frank Kaminsky? It isnt like the guys from LSU I mentioned were a bunch of lottery picks (except Ben). Most of then went 2nd round or undrafted. But we need to give them more of a REASON to stay.

So the fans held Johnny Jones back?

I’m order to become a powerhouse, the recruiting has to become more pointed.
Raw athletes who can get buckets in HS are great, but you need more skill.
You need better shooters, better passers, higher IQ players. Less ball stoppers, more ball rotation.
You need to understand roster construction, develop a team with complimentary skill sets, and not have a group of guys that all do the same thing.
You need to keep developing a system, and recruit to it.
Wade is still so young. In my opinion He recruits great players, but I’m not sure how much of a plan he has constructing a team. Guys leaving early doesn’t help but his teams have always seemed to lack true cohesion.

Coaching is part of it but retaining talent is part of it too. It is very difficult to win with a bunch of freshmen and sophomores every year (no matter how talented they are). Look at the last few championship winning teams and tell me how many of them were lead by a bunch of underclassmen. You have back 6 years to find that.

Stop paying for players so we don't end up on probation.

Or better yet let me ask you this. If Jalen Brunson played for LSU do you think he wouldve stayed until his junior year. Or Kaminsky 4 years? Or Caris Levert at Michigan 4 years?
Posted on 4/14/20 at 2:47 pm to PhillyFan1994
Didn’t Mays stay all 4 years? Looks like Smart and Days are staying for year 3.

Did I say we need a new facility?
Only the old bastards that don't want people standing up and cheering love the PMAC.

The PMAC can be gutted and re-done like Houston. Add premium seats, decrease general seats.

Yes he was one of the few and look how important he was. I honestly expect JaVonte and Emmitt to both leave but I hope I am wrong. But we need more former 4 and 5 star guys willing to stay.

Why do you expect Smart to leave? All indications are that he’s in.
Williams has a child so he’s a different situation. He may need to start getting some cash flow

While I agree that the PMAC either needs to be completely replaced or renovated, Villanova plays a lot of their games at the 76ers Arena

Because he already declared last season and like I said a lot of guys refuse to stay longer than 2 years.

Oh well that seems rational
Every good freshman is ENCOURAGED to get a grade. Why not get tips on what to improve on and how to do it from NBA scouts and coaches?

This is true. But I think a 10-12 thousand seat arena is appropriate

Wade knows a guy. He just doesn't need to talk to that fricker on the damn phone.
