Food Rating: A
Lots and lots of good food on the menu.

Atomosphere Rating: B+
cool hangout place in baton rouge other than the chimes.

Beer Rating: A-
They make their own beer and its good, but their "nitwit" which is supposed to be their best beer is ALWAYS sold out.

Service Rating: D-
I've been twice so far, the first time being on a monday at lunch, where the service was so so...
Another time at night on a thursday, and it was okay.

My friends went out saturday night where they called in for reservations 5 hours ahead of time, and ended up waiting 2 hours to be seated. That is ridiculous. I could maybe understand just showing up with no reservations and waiting 1+ hour, but to have reservations and wait 2+ hours is NONSENSE.

If their service steps it up, BJ's could easily be one of Baton Rouge's best eateries/hangouts/bars.

What say you?

Ah...ok.

They have one by my home/office. Where is the one in BR?

Overall the food is solid, and I have yet to be disappointed. Same with the drinks.....

Never really had a problem with the service though besides the fact that they get super busy and sometimes it will take a while to get seated. Never waited more than 45 minutes though.

ETA-Nitwit is awesome and I love their pizzas.

I couldn't agree more. I went on a Sunday after the lunch rush. The food was great, recommend the BBQ chicken pizza. But the service was terrible. Once they get that in line I think it'll be great.

I have been 3 times the first time the service was great, but that was because they had people from other stores following them around making sure they did stuff right...

the 2nd time it was horrible... we waited at the table for 25 minutes b4 anyone came to talk to us... so we had to flag down someone (one of the people from a different store) she took our order and found our real waitress.... then it was ok from there on out..

the third time we just sat at the bar b/c it was happy hour... the service was fine expect i asked for a beer at 6:55 and it didnt make it in time for the end of happy hour at 7.

a couple of my friends work there. We went the first week it opened and it took forever for them to split up the check. My buddies knew the waitress and she insisted on splitting the check so she could learn how to do it. 45 minutes, and every manager later and the check is split but split wrong. Some people had a $6 check and others had a $45 check. It took 30 more minutes to fix it.

I went to one a while back when I was in Los Angeles. My friend that lives there hangs out at that one all the time. So I was excited when ours opened, just have to wait for the kinks to get worked out.

I went once and it was ok. I got a stuffed potato but I think I should have tried the pizza. The service was good but it looked like it was the entire staff's first job. They were all like 15. They were being supervised by a more experienced crew. which made everything run pretty smooth.

I completely agree. Tonight was my third visit and the service was actually very good for the first time. It could be because it was WAY less crouded than the first two times or maybe they're starting to filter out the bad employees? Maybe? Hopefully?

"maybe they're starting to filter out the bad employees?"

or maybe they weren't as busy as before?

I really liked their food and beer, but i might freak out on someone if I have to wait 2 hours to be seated when I have reservations.

hopefully the kinks get worked out in BR.

I've been twice so far in BR... first time table sunday lunch rush, large restaurant/new expected slow service and got it... no big deal. Got a few drinks a mediocre french dip sandwich. The southwest spring rolls are good though.

Went again late this past saturday night, sat at the bar and had a deep dish pizza with ham and meatballs. The pizza was really good and I think that is what they specialize in. The crust was really thin for being deep dish, plenty of leftovers.

Beers/drinks have been good. It will be a fun sunday NFL place to blow some money due to that huge tv they have where they can stream multiple games.

Search on the food board for plenty more opinions.

I just went and looked at their site. They have a big menu. I thought that it would be rather limited because I gathered it was more or less a trendy 21-25 year olds hangout. It seems like it is a family environment, though. Am I right or wrong?

definitely a mixed environment... there are tv's throughout the whole restaurant. The bar is huge and will have a great football vibe in the fall, but they get all the mall shoppers with their kids, etc. The restaurant is large enough to where any age can enjoy it and the atmosphere is nice. I think the menu is so large so they don't think they are filling the sports bar niche only...it has both a restaurant and sports bar feel depending where you sit. I can see it getting rowdy at the bar in the fall though.

But like I said you could be on the other side and have a pleasant sit down meal while still watching a game or enjoying conversation.

Thanks. My wife and I were at the Mall today and were talking about the new area. We might go back for lunch, soon.

Went Sunday, ordered Nitwit (And yes they were out). The second beer I ordered, out also. Good good, service lacking.
