Just an honest question.

We all see the doomsday messages (I’ve even spouted off), but are hospitals truly slammed?

In a country of 300+ million people, I’m wondering if this was a good test of how ill prepared our healthcare system was......

In NOLA and NY, yes.

Really not anywhere else.

We aren’t at capacity in Nola

Are things tight? Yes. Did we make changes that has opened up space? Yes

Are we at capacity, which means we can’t take on more people, no.

problem is nola is sending patients all over the state, which is filling up hospitals elsewhere. so when (not if) this gets out of control statewide, every hospital will already be full

Sure

Then we moved units around, opened up internal bed space, added 100s of beds to the convention center etc etc

We aren’t at capacity

NOLA has taken spillover measures. They have new space created but the number of admitted patients are close to filling average resources (without spillover measures).

Not sure if that is "at capacity"

Italy and Spain. Both rates almost 30 spots higher than the US by the WHO for medical care system

not exactlY, hopefully. When this start ramping up in other pockets of the state, we hope Nola will be on it’s downslide at that point

Nobody takes the WHO system rankings seriously.

It’s simple. At capacity means when you can’t take on more patients

You know that’s what it means and you said it because that’s what you do

My sister works at a Raleigh, NC hospital, and it's a ghost town. They've actually cut their RN's to 25 hours a week.

In palm beach county at the number one rated hospital in the county. We’re like 60 percent capacity and can fit roughly 300 patients in here if we’re pushing it. Basically if someone hasn’t fallen and broken something or having a very bad exacerbation of a chronic illness they’re not being admitted if we can help it. Approximately 30 covid cases between the rule outs and the positives.
