I'm going to mount my tv on the wall. What do you do with the cable box/blue ray player? Does that go behind the tv? I've seen some in a closet. How does that work?

TIA

I bought a shelf for the cable box and mounted it below the tv.

I have my tv on the wall. The previous owner did have cable box and stuff in the closet as you alluded to. You use an infrared remote...there's like a sensor placed on the tv or something like that. It was professionally done. But I didn't really want to do that cause I rather have my stuff where I can get to it. So I have a piece of furniture beneath my tv..like a nice wood cabinet and I have cable box, receiver, DVD etc in that. The cables from tv go into the wall behind the tv and run behind the wall and come out behind the cabinet. So the wires are hidden. That's how mine is. Guess it depends what your room / furniture setup is around your tv.

I've mounted the cable box behind the TV at the top with the sensor pointing up at the ceiling. The IR signal from the remote didn't have a problem reflecting off the white ceiling - just had point the remote at the ceiling!

I bought some clear Gorilla double-sided tape and stuck everything on the back of my tv.

Wireless router
Apple TV
Modem
Phillips hue hub
Cable box

I put a wall mount data cabinet in my laundry room and put all my equipment in there.
Use an IR extender or if your TV supports it like mine, it will do that for you and all inhad to do was put IR blasters in the cabinet.

This is my setup too. I also used HDMI wall plates with coax and cat5/6 setups at the top and bottom of the run. That let me use 3-6' cords to keep everything clean & off the floor behind my console

If you go the route of the IR extender, how do you connect the box in the closet to the actual tv. Doesn't the IR extender only extend the IR signal to the cable box? You still have to connect the cable box to the actual tv, right?

Yea you have to run HDMI between the devices like you said....so for example in my house when it used to be wired that way, a long hdmi had to be run from behind tv up the wall, thru attic and into closet. That's where the "call a professional" comes in haha. At least I would. It can be done of course but definitely a pain if you don't have the tools.

With HDMI cables..... The running of which will depend on your room(s) layout and proximity to closets, cabinets, furniture etc as well as how many components you are installing.

If you have attic access above, it shouldnt be too hard.

Many ways to skin a cat here. It all depends on your actual layout

i guess because i cut the cord i cant imagine needing anything more going to my tv other than power and an ethernet cable. pretty much anything you desire can be handled by a roku, fireTV or appleTV connected to the back of the tv.

i'm still someone in this thread taped their router & their hue hub to the back of their tv.
