The "incentive not to work" is what I was trying to get at in my much downvoted thread.

Guess that means I'm at least as smart as a US Senator, though that's probably not a good thing.

How do you choose to be laid off? Honestly just curious.

In theory you can volunteer to be one of the casualties if you know cuts are on the way.

The drafting error gave democrats 3 votes in every election instead of just allowing one dead person to vote.

Gotta make it look like they’re doing something. In short, just another day in DC.

This is meant to get people angry when they miss their first pay checks this week. Just wait. Media is ready to pounce for the left.

You're looking at it incorrectly. Many small businesses have very little working capital available to float times like this. Plus, their cash receipts have stopped. So legislation saying employees will be paid full (or better) via unemployment makes the decision to lay them off VERY easy.

In that case the number of layoffs would remain the same then, so how would that result in more layoffs and the kind of critical problems that they are talking about?

Since Graham and Scott are my Senators I sent them both the following message regarding this topic:

quote:

Senator ...,

I share your concerns on the COVID-19 Stimulus Bill in relation to potentially incentivizing people not to work. In addition, I am opposed to inclusion of funds in this bill which are not directly related to helping out people who are being hurt by the economic shutdown due to COVID-19. This is not the time for "pork" such as the proposed $25 million in funding for the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the $75 million to each the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities. The reports of extra money also potentially going to welfare recipients, who have had no change in their normal payments, or to illegal alien immigrants are also disturbing. I say all of this knowing my income is above any of the proposed thresholds and I will not be receiving a stimulus check under any circumstances, which I am okay with. I remain employed full time at one of the hospitals in ....

During this time of crisis, I would hope the Democrats could come together with the Republicans to pass a clean bill that is directly related to the issue at hand and not use the situation for political posturing.

Yours Truly,

[insert name here]

I’m at work right now at a job that is 100% commission and considered essential but, without customers, I’m not making enough to pay my mortgage.

Finally somebody in the Senate read some of what they were working on and understood what it meant.

All they ever do is mouth off about support for what their party leadership says is a good bill.
