Why are idiots advocating opening charity hospital for this?

I saw this last night and thought it was one random idiot. Today I saw many more morons parroting this silliness. How have we become so damn stupid as a society?
1. By the time the place was remediated and sanitized this damn episode will be long over.
2. Is equipment just magically going to show up?
3. Are trained medical professionals just going to pop out of nowhere?

We are America.
We make things happen when adversity strikes.
At least we used to before political pansies took sides.

There is things we can control. Opening up charity in short order is simply not feasible.

The last thing New Orleans needs right now is a building full of dead bodies that they don’t know how to raze.

They must want another building to collapse on people

I’m assuming the sentiment is that charity should’ve never been closed to begin with and should be reopened to allow for low income citizens to receive convenient healthcare.
But I have next to zero knowledge of the subject but I don’t see how anyone truly believes that opening it now would be any help to the Covid-19 crisis.

I’ve seen this stuff in comments under new stories, and now people posting it on Facebook. How can anyone with more than two brain cells think this is smart or feasible. The cost would be astronomical, and at that cost many more sensible options would be available at a fraction of the cost.

Army Corps of Engineers should be able to get it up and running in a couple of weeks. They set up field hospitals in deserts, so this should be easier. New Orleans is a war zone, so they'd be able to handle it.

The fact that building still stands is a stupendous disgrace.

Yea, they’re starting from nothing there. They don’t have to remediate asbestos and god knows what else in that building.

I think there are better facilities that could transition. Empty gymnasiums would be ready quicker than Charity’s skeleton. It’s true they need to do something though.
The healthcare/public service workers of the OT need to fill us in on what they are dealing with.

I don’t understand why as some facilities fill they don’t just start diverting to others.

I have been looking into dystopian post apocalyptic viral sci fi and the local abandoned hospital is not a safe place.

Maybe because it is a prime piece of property and something needs to be done with it.

1) is a legitimate critique. 2) and 3) aren't because, yeah, if the state is declared a disaster area then FEMA/National Guard equipment and medical staff can pop up out of nowhere.

It’s currently being developed allegedly.

Charity is too far out of commission to be feasible option. it would be many, many, many times quicker (and cleaner) to built temporary facilities or convert facilities already in use (requisition hotels, etc) - if it comes to that.

Why Is New Orleans’ Charity Hospital Still Abandoned 12 Years After Hurricane Katrina?
The sheer amount of debris/crap to remove would be a non-starter. Then the remediation to being functional would take months.
There are plenty of other places with working utilities that can have cots and whatnot set up much more quickly .

Are there any animals that you encountered inside there such as dogs, raccoons, or anything else?
The hospital has its own flora and fauna. Inside, where windows have been busted out, birds have flown in. They’ve passed seeds from feeding. Those seeds have germinated and grown things. There are animals, there’s a considerable rodent population. There are raccoons, there are birds, there’s feral cats, a large amount of insects. My favorite though was a very large owl that kind of rules the roost, he’s the apex predator. He feeds on the cats, and the rats, and everything else in between.

In 1986, I had an uncle who was taken to Charity with a brain aneurysm. Sadly, he didn't survive.
But what I recall the most was how damned dirty that place was in general. I remember my mom kept telling me and my sister to not touch things in the lobby and waiting area. I always thought hospitals were supposed to be somewhat sanitary and clean, but not that place.
