All I know is that the Rigolets and the Chef are some of the deepest inshore Waters in Louisiana.
I'm curious like you about anyone fishing it

I caught some bass this weekend in the marsh near chef.
The water is murky, we went across Borgne to the B Marsh to get reds. Most of my neighbors are going further out to the cleaner water.
I have not tried fishing in Chef Pass itself. Maybe worth a shot trying deep. Live bait was not available here this weekend.

Well, if you like speckled trout now is the time to go. Live shrimp does well and in the Michoud slow rolling plastic grubs on the bottom does ok too.
Can also find bull reds and bull sharks in the bigger channels, dead mullet or trout will catch those.
The shallower marsh holds nice reds as well as nice largemouth bass.
That's about all there is to know.

Usually, yes, this would be the time to go, but with high water in the Pearl water is very dirty and fresh. Went the past 2 weekends thinking I would catch specks, but only a handful. Reds are biting if you can find them, but channel cats are the most plentiful right now. You can catch them anywhere you go with shrimp on the bottom. As the river drops Specks should make their normal spring run. Should be soon.

Any luck ever catching white trout out that way?
It's good to hear someone who knows a little about that area. I live about a 15 min boat ride away from there but never really fish it

Looks like the spillway is going to open again this year so probably won’t have specks until the late summer/fall except in Lake Borgne.

So I only kayak fish for the most part, meaning I can't get to a lot of places. But, from what I hear just look for the guide boats. Look around 30.037656, -89.817366.

Haven't lived in Louisiana in over 10 years however I grew up on Irish Bayou. In general the bass/trout/red fishing is good in the marshes around the Chef. For the Chef itself I liked to fish near the mouth (either) and would drift along the drop off into the pass. I would move the drifts around until you find fish then either anchor if they are concentrated or just drift the same area if they are scattered. If you have sonar you can follow the channel out into the lake a decent bit.
For live/dead bait drifting I would use a three way swivel with a flouro leader to the hook and some light mono to the sinker so it could break off it gets stuck. Typically I would switch to casting artificial when near the shoreline.

Give them baws some space. See if you can duplicate what they are doing in another spot or area.

Really? Why not tell them to give dam space. There are some that will run right up to you in casing distance and shut down.

I do. I also know there's a lot of water and no reason for people to be on top of one another.
