C - Milazzo
1B - Beloso
2B - C Doughty
SS - Cranford
3B - Jordan Thompson Fr
LF - Crews Fr
CF - Gio
RF - Hampton
DH - Travinski

Friday P - Hill
Saturday P - Marceaux
Sunday P - Way JC
Closer - Money Fr
Midweek - Walker

We will have to wait and see how the draft affects this team of course but I need to talk about baseball so here we go.

I don't see the extra year of eligibility having an impact on the position players, except for maybe Mathis. It will probably have a bigger impact on our pitching depth. It could help us with Walker, Hilliard, Beck, George, Vietmeier, Kaminer and Fontenot.

Infield: Catcher - Milazzo is the man but if Romo Fr makes it to campus he could push Milazzo. Romo has first round talent. If Travinski starts hitting, it will be impossible to keep him away from the line up somewhere. If Romo does make it to campus, Travinski as DH is my vote.

1B - Beloso, Beloso and then maybe Beloso.

2B - I assumed C Doughty would hold down 3B last year and he could challenge next year but my money is he stays at 2B.

SS - This could be an interesting battle. Cranford was very impressive on defense and his bat was improving. Arnold was my preseason bet to take SS but injuries prevented that. Arnold had a better resume' than Cranford coming out of HS but part of that was Cranford missed his senior year with TJ surgery. Jordan Thompson and Ty Floyd will be the new kids on the block to push for time. You could very well have Arnold and Cranford at SS and 3B but Thompson has a shot to bounce one of them.

3B - I have Thompson here but it is just a wild guess at this point.

Outfield: RF - Hampton was coming on and I think he will be much improved next year.

CF - Gio surprised me somewhat (I was starting to give up on him) and was turning it on. Hopefully he has it figured out and this spot is his.

LF - This could go in many different directions, Bianco, Dugas, Sanford, Toups and the two newcomers to watch are Crews and Drost. I like Toups a lot here and that would be one fast outfield but I am guessing Crews for now.

Pitching: I don't think many people will argue Hill and Marceaux for Friday and Saturday and we will see what happens in the draft for the rest of the pitching. The newcomers to watch are Money, Floyd (two way player), Murray, Millas, Fowler and Way. We will see who makes it to campus but we could have our closer and Sunday guy in that group.

I like this team defensively. Pitching should be good and possibly great depending on the draft and the newcomers. It should be an improved hitting team as well. We lose Cabrera and probably Garza and Mathis but I see potentially a stronger 1-9.

I’m just expecting everyone to come back since the only big prospect we had was Cabrera and no season hurts him a lot. He and Henry are the only 2 on MLB.com’s top 100. They’re the only 2 I think are actual threats to leave, but I expect Henry to fall cuz of the arm issues and idk what happens with Cabrera

I don’t see how Henry gets drafted highly enough to warrant signing at this point. How many millions would you throw at a guy with this mysterious dead arm issue?

You guys could be correct about Henry. Henry was going to be a draft eligible sophomore before this coronavirus crap. So Henry could have returned for his Junior year and still had leverage for signing, so the extra year of eligibility doesn't factor in with Henry.

So this is how I see it. First scenario Henry gets a firm diagnosis on his arm and it is treatable, MLB drafts him first round. Second scenario, Henry gets an "arm soreness" diagnosis and they have no idea why. Teams will shy away and he will want to return to prove himself to get drafted higher. The question is will Henry want to take that risk? What if he comes back with no good idea why his arm hurts and he is hurt again? Now teams will draft him even lower. I could be wrong but either way, I think he is gone.

You did a great job summing this up.

My thoughts on the returning starters...

I think Cabrera will be taken pretty early in the draft no matter what. Garza is someone who could go as well and would be 50/50 again. I just don’t see the high draft interest in Mathis but maybe he wants to get his career started no matter where he goes. For now I say he returns.

Every other position player will come back or should come back which will be huge.

I think Fontenot will show high draft interest and could leave which is a bummer because he could of had an insane season. Beck loves this team so I wouldn’t be surprised to see him come back if he really wants to. Storz and Labas are complete unknowns and I wouldn’t be surprised if both left, both stayed, or one etc... Guys like Hillard, Walker, Vietmeier, Kaminer I think as you mentioned should all be back if they want.

My thoughts on the incoming recruits...

A very heavy pitching group which was the exact opposite of last years class.

There’s about 4 position guys who are above the rest in my opinion. Drew Romo is a first round catcher who is elite defensively. I don’t see him coming to campus but if he does then that’s great. Dylan Crews a corner outfielder who I’m also not counting for now to make it to campus...if he does then great. Jordan Thompson an elite defender and a possible instant plug and play at SS. Brody Drost a big left handed bat with a great arm who I think will be a RF. If LSU is able to get 2 of these I think thats a good haul.

Pitching class is deep and guys such as Ty Floyd, Blake Money, Michael Fowler, Zach Murrary, Theo Millais, Brooks Rice are all good arms that can top 90. Beck Way is the JUCO kid who would be an instant plug and play guy. Ty Floyd would be an instant back if the bullpen arm along with Money as you said...those are the two LSU needs to keep.

My way to early prediction. Assuming Cabrera, Henry, Storz, Fontenot, and Garza leave and Romo and Crews sign which is conservative.

C - Milazzo
1B - Beloso
2B - Doughty
SS - Thompson
3B - Arnold/Cranford/Mathis
LF - Toups
CF - DiGiacomo
RF - Hampton
DH - Travinski

Guys such as Bianco, Dugas, Willis, Sanford, Hughes may stick around they may not depending on how the lineup shakes out.

Friday - Hill
Saturday - Marceaux
Sunday - Labas

Pitching is much harder to predict.

So many moving parts but the overall lineup will be much more talented next year which a lot of teams will be able to say.

Sounds like you were enjoying your Saturday night. At least the alcohol is still in good supply. I can live without toilet paper.

I would be shocked if Garza came back to be the designated hitter with not much to prove with his bat.

Labas and Fontenot coming back would be a big win. Storz is interesting to me. The guy was assembled in a factory. I was shocked to see him only throwing in the low 90's. If he can come back and throw mid 90's I could see it be worth his while. The big thing that might make him go is his age.

I agree with the four new position players. Out of the four Thompson would be the biggest win based on our needs.

I'm ready for next season to start. If they cancel next year, I am just going to proclaim the apocalypse. I am pretty sure it is in the Bible somewhere that signs of the end time will be wars, hunger, sickness and the cancellation of all LSU sports.

Mathis can come back. His situation is complicated. He was drafted late out of Juco last year but decided to come to LSU. I'm not sure if he helped his draft status or not by coming to LSU but I believe he will get drafted again and maybe a little higher.

He could return for his Senior year and with the extra year of eligibility has some signing leverage. One thing he will have to consider is if he will even have a starting job if he comes back. If Thompson makes it to campus, then you will have C Doughty, Cranford, Arnold, Thompson and Mathis fighting for 3 spots.

He would be a junior again if the waiver is granted unless they continue on and count everyone as a year older with an asterisk.

And that's true but it's a good thing to have
