Hunt Palmer on LSU shooting %

Hunt Palmer is on Hanging With Hester today on BR radio. He says that over the last seven games that LSU has shot 45% from behind the arc. He went on to say that BYU leads the nation this season at 42%.
Eta: Some have said that it's actually 45% overall, not from 3 and that it's 38% from 3. I'm pretty sure that's what he said though. Either way it's an improvement.

Yet LSU is 3-4 in their last 7 games.
LSU couldn't shoot 3s when they won 10 games in a row.

Them white boys are straight shooters
We were shooting 60% against uga until forcing a couple late ones deep into the shot clock

this is such a simpleton argument.

I'm not making an argument. LSU's good or bad 3 point shooting hasn't translated into more wins or losses for this team.

I ran the numbers and got 37.8 .....still very impressive

Which is the outlier, the last 7 games or the first 24?

The point he was making is that most people (me included) say LSU isn't a good shooting team and that they're shooting well going into tournament time.

I thought that seemed high...and it is. By my count, LSU shot 38% over the last 7 games. Now, they have shot 45% OVERALL in the last 7 games, but not from three

He said 3, but maybe it was just a mistake. I will edit.

I’ve said it many times...3 pt shooting has been way overvalued by the sabermetrics crowd. It really isn’t that important compared to defense, rebounding, turnovers etc. a team shooting 40% (Top 3 ranking) from 3 will hit 8/20 shots from 3 pt range...while a team shooting 30% (Currently ranked 321 ) will hit 6/20...a whopping 2 less shots.

LSU shoots 47.1% from the field and 32.7% from 3 so was a decrease in overall fg % and a slight uptick in 3 point % something to bring up on a radio show?

Don’t believe everything a baton rouge radio guy says. LSU has shot 37.8% from 3 over the last 7 games. Thankfully UGA was 3/26 so opponents average 34.9% from 3 in the last 7 games. Before that they were shooting 39.1%.

Someone mentioned that LSU wasn't a good shooting team. Hunt responded with the shooting percentage. I was pretty sure he said from 3, but it's always possible I misheard him.

We shot 30.9% in the first 24 games, 37.8% in the last 7 . That’s more than a slight uptick.

I didn't hear the show, but I would venture to guess it is in response to the crowd that always blames LSU's struggles on (pick one or more): not have a PG; or poor shooting from 3; or "an offense that just stands still", etc to show them that NONE of LSU's struggles have been on offense and anyone constantly bitching about it is either uniformed or simply isn't paying attention.

Scoring 6 points more a game is a huge difference

Here's a silver lining going into tournament time -- excluding Saturday's performance, LSU (for whatever reason) is a MUCH better 3 point shooting team away from home. As in 10% points better!
