Meanwhile in the UK (from ITV):

quote:

For what it’s worth, ministers are looking with grim bemusement at the debate in football’s governing bodies about banning the public from stadia. They fear this fuels alarmism and do not think playing matches behind closed doors is necessary at this stage. Far more sensible, they believe, is for all of us to become much more wary about physical contact with everyone in our day-to-day lives – whether travelling to work, at work, or at the shops.

And Scotland is halting mass gatherings of 500 starting Monday...because a Glasgow Derby at Ibrox can’t be played without fans...morons

Sounds like USL has dropped out of the US Open Cup this year in order to more easily reschedule league matches.

The DFL and DFB are considering ending the Bundesliga season after this weekend, according to the Express. No trophy would be awarded and no relegation would take place. Instead, the Bundesliga would be expanded to 22 teams for 2020-21 with the top four teams from the second tier

I expect MLS teams to do the same for the Open Cup. The season can maybe be salvaged if it resumes by late May/early June. It would take a bunch of weekday games, but it’s doable.

Hell, the Open Cup might not even happen, at this point. If it’s not safe for pro teams, it’s not safe for amateur teams to play, either.
