CPM, the last several seasons, seems to want to be an MLB style manager, as opposed to a college head coach.

We have a new hitting coach and it's probably going to take more than a fall / pre-conference spring to fix so many bad habits developed under our previous hitting coach.

I get trying to not overcoach the players in baseball. You want them to just react on ability, you don't want them thinking too much.

But you have to coach them up somewhat.

Remember, today's college players have been coached by idiot daddy-ball travel team coaches, and high school head coaches that all too often play favorites.

These kids NEED to be coached up. They are more raw than they used to be when they get to college. MLB organizations have devoted a ton of resources into farm system, understanding this. College can still only have three "paid" coaches.

CPM needs to coach more and manage less. If he can't, then maybe it's time to start thinking about retirement. I just wish he would see that.

Most Travel ball players have their own personal hitting coaches and I doubt they listen to their HS coaches. That’s a lot of the problem. Tony Robichaux told it like it is when he went on his rant about travel ball.

Which would mean he should change his recruiting philosophy to lean more heavily on JUCOs. Since part of being an MLB manager is outsourcing player development to other people (not a perfect analogy, because player development is still in the same org).

But instead, they've been recruiting like an MLB team drafts in a lot of cases. High upside raw talent that takes time and coaching to develop.
