Square officially has talked about the changes in the story today, or they officially let a blogger. I won't spoil anything but I am not a fan. Most won't care. I saw the leaks so I knew before today.

quote:
he philosophy behind the remake wasn’t to do something completely new,” explains the remake’s co-director, Naoki Hamaguchi, who has worked on the Final Fantasy series since 2003. “The original game was grounded in the technology of the day. And because of that, there was a lot of storytelling that the player had to fill in with their imagination. In the original, for example, when you travelled between areas, the screen would fade to black; players didn’t see the journey
quote:
he story would have moved on and what actually happened in the meantime would be left to your imagination. We approached this by thinking, what is actually supposed to be happening here? What are the gaps it doesn’t show you, and how do we fill those in to make what was being implied actually shown? [In the original] there’d be hundreds of things happening in that one night. It feels very weird. We had to find a more realistic way of arranging that story.”
Im okay with this...

But with that said. 8000 times better than that abortion of a combat system from 15.
I liked that combat system

We can talk about it later, I don't want to spoil anything. But IMO some very KOH type nonsense was added that didnt need to be. Maybe it will play out better in the actual game.

Playing through the original for the first time during my down time at work. Took me a little under seven hours to leave Midgard so I'm interested to see how they expand that section of the game. They said it's the same length as a stand alone Final Fantasy.

Yeah, I have no doubt it'll be a "full game". The latest interviews with Kitase and crew brought up some interesting points.
Like how the original has just has black screens when transitioning to another area. They had to fill that space with something and was a ton to work with.
ETA: I started learning the Any% speedrun of the original and I just got my Midgar exit time under 2 hours. It blows my mind how the good runners can get around1:30.

Adding absolutely nothing to this conversation but as a youngin I didn't own a memory card for my PS1 since we were "broke" so I must have played from the beginning to leaving Midgar about 5-6 times before finally buying a knockoff through Wal-Mart.

Stores are already selling the game in Australia and Europe due to COVID-19 concerns. Videos of people playing the game are already popping up online so stay away from them if you want to go into this game fresh.
I must admit...it's been difficult for me but I've been doing well so far. I really hope PSN just goes ahead and starts dropping the game for people to download.

Square Enix will not push the digital release date forward despite stores in Australia and Europe already selling the game to consumers.

Also...a few things I'm seeing on Reddit:
- The review embargo lifts on Monday at 6 AM eastern time. Most take this as a good sign of the quality of the game.
- Australian and European players are already finishing the game and say it takes between 30-40 hours to beat. They also say the game lives up to the lofty expectations and that the ending is by far the best part of the game.

Yeah everything I have seen so far is good. Not the game but from those who have played it seem to really enjoy it.

Besides downloading digital, how's everyone else getting it? I'm going to try and pick it up from gamestop with their curbside pick up and if that doesnt work then I guess try Best Buy.
