Just looking at the Boy's playoffs brackets and, while I am happy to see Scotlandville win another title, it kind of sucks to see they wont have much playoff competition along the way to get there.

LINK

The current setup has them with a 1st round bye and only 2 wins needed to get to the state title game. And there are some 5A powerhouses I would love to see then matchup with like Natchitoches Central and Ouachita. Or even a rematch with Walker and Jalen Cook.

I just feel like the split between select and non-select was supposed to increase parity but it feels it has had the opposite effect. Also I think it dampens a team's claim to be "State Champs" when there are ELEVEN OTHER STATE CHAMPS in a state as small as Louisiana. Maybe the LHSAA will start to host a Tournament of Champions like New Jersey does to let the state title winners play to decide who the top teams really are (Obviously this couldnt happen in football).

Thoughts?

Quit recruiting then. 2A enrollment John Curtis has 10 D1 players every year. Normal 2A has 1 or maybe none. Evangel was winning National Championships with 1A enrollment.

Kids want to go where there’s good coaching. Get better coaches at some of these public schools and you won’t have as big of an issue. With good coaching a public school can recruit too

More to it than coaching. How did Dunn do in public school? Or Hank at Ponchy? I don’t blame parents or kids, just play people who do the same as you. Check Rummel’s roster. We played them in 7 on 7 and the 30 kids they brought don’t represent school
population. More than Evangel and Curtis recruiting big time.

They hell they aren't
Most private schools recruit. And the two that you mentioned would win it every year regardless

Or Hank at Ponchy?

He won 40 games in a four year stretch and is about to win 20 in the next two years

Thats the thing about public schools. You are at the mercy of your talent pool. Ponchatoula went through a three year stretch were the talent wasn't on par with the rest of the parish.

Hank is still recruiting at Ponchatoula. I would imagine Dunn is as well.

He went 2-8. When is last time Evangel, Curtis or Rummel went 2-8? And this is after his program was in place. 6-5 last year.

I was a Senior in high school and the first thing I did when they announced the split was tell my Baseball coach it was garbage. My coach got mad and said why now its easier to win a state title but all the players had the same sentiment as me. We didn’t want to play easier competition just because it meant a better chance to win, and this was coming off a semifinals trip when it was us (Public) vs three Private schools

Don't see it going back to the way it was.
Football is the only sport that has a major impact anyway.
If they could fix the football issues, a lot of this would go away.
Can't wait for Catholic vs IMG

How do teams that recruit only in their state like to play IMG who recruits nationally? I haven’t seen Curtis, Evangel or Rummel schedule them. Why doesn’t JT jump on IMG? Because it is unfair advantage and IMG would win 9 out of 10. Same thing as public vs private in Louisiana for most schools. Let Alabama nationally recruit and let LSU only get kids from Louisiana and see the uproar.

If they do most are doing a poor job. Evangel and JC don't even win every year with the split

Most publics recruit too. In both Orleans and Lafayette parish a kid can pretty much go wherever he wants

Don't think that public schools aren't recruiting too. It's rampant and people who don't see it are burying their heads in the sand. The LHSAA don't have the resources to police it are perhaps in the case of certain schools don't care to.

Public schools recruit and bend the rules just as much if not more than privates.
The knock on CHS is they get all these kids but majority come from the feeder schools that the parents intend to send them to CHS through.

Walker recruits.
Dutchtown recruits - Cushenberry lived in Iberville parish but most likely had a relative that lived in Dutchtown so they used that address.

They didn’t have their post player vs Bonnabel.

Could help if there’s a rematch. He should be back soon if not tonight

That's funny because for national signing day they had one kid accept a preferred walk-on invite from Louisiana Tech. They have one premiere player in Brian Thomas who was born and raised in Walker.
They lost 49-0 to Acadiana in the second round, not exactly much of a matchup talent wise.
