With turkey season being just three weeks out , I wanted to check in with the OB turkey hunters, and see if anyone has a report on the activity where they hunt. I am going to check my cams tomorrow in SW Mississippi, but over the course of the deer season I counted 10 different long beards on my place. I heard a report out of Franklin County MS that gobblers were seen strutting with hens, and a few heard gobbling already. What y'all seeing??

I heard yelping and gobbling one morning 2-3 weeks ago. That was the first time I've heard them gobbling and yelping in February. Poplarville

This doesn't necessarily mean they're gonna be there during turkey season. Right about now they're transitioning, if they haven't already, to where they'll spend the spring. Winter turkeys and spring turkeys need different things.

Heard 4 turkeys gobbling like idiots for 2 hours on December 19. Saw 3 gobblers strutting with hens on Jan 18 this year. Don't get caught up in "early spring" or "they're gonna breed too early" or any of that crap. #1 factor is daylight length.

Except there. All those mfers dead from the freeze.

I saw some toms strutting 50 yards from my driveway in Collierville, TN a few days ago. My family's land in Boligee, AL was under water last week when I was there. I am going to check some cameras at a spot I hunt in Tate County, MS this weekend

I’ve heard a few on our place in Jefferson Co.
In about 2 weeks they’ll start lighting it up good on the roost.

I went to my place in Jayess, Ms yesterday. Checked cameras and had several pics of 3 strutting in a large group. Early February. That's about all I have for you. I'm ready for mid March. Turkey hunt in the morning, spring plot maintenance shortly after.

Everything I’ve seen and heard from several different farms is good hatch last year with large numbers of long beards being seen as well

I central Louisiana I had two huge toms gobble and strut all morning in December.

I had pics of groups of hens (10-12) and pics of solo gobblers.

Last couple years have been much better than the three or four previous. I attribute a good bit of that to the pushing back of opening day a week. Didn’t like it at first, but makes sense and I believe will be great for turkeys long term

I agree. We have also trapped and killed 80+ coons, possums, and skunks on our place over the last two years. No telling how many nests that saved.
