I mean, there’s a legitimate argument that a large portion of lawyers are actively and intentionally making the state and country worse off for personal gain.


It’s not ALL the lawyers fault. But lawyers arguably bear the second most responsibility for the decline behind politicians. It’s a field in a bit of a weird position in that about a third of lawyers deserve deep, immense respect amongst the highest of all professions, but another third of them deserve absolutely none, and should probably be actively shun from society. That latter third are genuinely fricking things up.

For the most part we've given them authority to set and enforce their own ethical guidelines. That makes all your thirds responsible for the billboard lawyers and so much more.
