I watched this on a whim at 8AM one day when I was home sick from work. I cried until lunchtime.

Yeah, a lot of Japanese movies devastate you emotionally which makes it ideal for one-time viewings. It either won’t have the same affect or kill you emotionally again on repeat viewings. Felt that way about Millennium Actress and Sansho The Bailiff. Both movies were great but have no desire of ever watching those movies again.
