I’m not sure what kind of semantics war you think you’re winning, but it’s a funny one.
Governments, even kingdoms, rule with the consent of the people they govern.
The problem here is that you have a people, Virginians, who have lost control of their state, and are being governed by outsiders who come from an alien culture. They also want to dismantle the existing culture.
Virginians did not consent to this, and will not accept it. It’s not a internal disagreement between neighbours that we can comprise on, it’s an external conflict.
Look at the gun sanctuary movement.

That’s a lot of hyperbole but given the semantics you’re clinging onto that checks out.
Also, that gun sanctuary thing is completely unconstitutional and won’t hold up. Again, just semantics and emotional posturing. But I get your point.

We disagree. Shocking.
I'm a resident of Florida. But I am a Virginian.
I don't expect you to get it.
Those transplants have been isolated in NOVA. They don't know squat about Virginians. Surely you can see that. How many of those yankee transplants have stepped foot in SW VA where I was born and raised? I'd bet you the number is zero or close to zero. Why would they? But they are shaping laws that affect those people and installing a progressive gov that those people loathe.
You are right about not being able to vote for a statue in Mt. Jackson. You shouldn't.
I do think you've kinda seen that this wasn't about reducing the State though so that's good I guess.
What part of Henrico? I spent HS in New Kent Co. We raised a bit of hell in Richmond from time to time.

The people invading Virginia today do so with more hatred in their hearts for white Southerners than the Union Army had in the 1860's. As someone who lives in an area of SC that is being settled by Yankees, I see it all the time. The people coming here are parasites, who love the beach, the weather and low taxes, but sneer at us natives as if we're scum. I've said this before, but the Puritan ethos of those in the Northeast and New England is foreign to us. Those damn Yankees want each and every one of us to think like they do, and we really don't give a damn what anybody thinks, so long as we're left the hell alone. That's why I've said I'd rather the South be invaded by Mexicans than damn Yankees.

Hence the renewed interest in militias. If I were still in VA I'd be joining one just to protect my gun rights even though the larping part I'd try to avoid at all costs.
Bet the prog interlopers didn't see the militias coming.

Those people are exactly the same as the Taliban in the early 2000s when they blew up all of those religious monuments and statues as it was against their strict Islamic interpretation.
Those monuments are about history, whether you approve of that history or not. They shouldn’t have the right to remove them.

The legislation passed by Richmond is likely unconstitutional. The state constitution broadly protects gun ownership.
But I don’t think Virginians will care is their own small revolt was found unconstitutional.Because the issue is one of identity. If they don’t like the ruling, they won’t follow it.
And that goes back to the question of legitimacy. Northam, the Democrats have violated a fundamental cultural norm, and stepped into the private lives of Virginians. I don’t have the right to disarm my neighbor. Neither does Richmond.

No I get what you mean, but despite the differences of nova and the rest of the state (which we agree are undeniable) it doesn’t matter.

Very unlikely, nothing that they’re talking about hasn’t been vetted already and/or exists elsewhere. Wanna do a ban bet for a month or two?
And in that case they’ll go to jail. Again, just emotional posturing.

Two Virginians are telling you that it does matter.
I can't imagine how far west the West End has spread. I bet traffic is a bitch out there now.
U of R is one school we are looking at for my son.

You really don’t understand us.
We will simply ignore Richmond.

I understand the resentment towards the changing landscape and despite the snark, I am sympathetic. But at the same time, they’re Virginians today, and that’s who our reps are beholden to.
It’s a great school but SUPER expensive. I’m not excited about the traffic out there but It is what it is. Schools kick arse and we have a lot of friends out that way.

Just another sad day for the Commonwealth...half these idiots in there probably have never taken a history of VA class or even read a book.
I am praying that somehow someway the 4 Dems in the Senate who are reasonable stick to their constituents and vote the right way.
But like I keep posting, the next election is make or break for the heart of the Commonwealth

We’ll never agree here because Virginians don’t consider them that at all. They are New Yorkers that happen to be legal residents of the Commonwealth.
The distinction is important to us and it’s important to understand politically.

It’s going to go blue regardless. Even Bernie.
The last four years in VA have been a continual referendum on Trump and Rs have been soundly beaten just about everywhere ever since. Nobody wants to hear that but it’s true.
And when they redraw the maps (this year) since they have complete control they’ll pick up more seats. Rs did the exact same thing in 2010, gerrymandered the state so bad they got sued and lost.

Well, actually they do. That’s what happens when you move somewhere and register to vote.
They’re not Virginians.
But there is that pesky ol’ Constitution.

I find it more likely that it’s less about trump and more about the further shift left for various other reason including the growth of nova, population shifts, proximity to dc and immigration.
Trump is just low hanging fruit for the left to blame but any ole R would have sufficed.

roadGator put it well, and I won’t repeat him.
People can become Virginians, but it means embracing our culture. These people are doing the opposite.
