It’s not like employers give them much notice before they turf their arse

“Not much notice” and no notice are two different things. We employ people. When we let one go we give them severance. In our Houston office, employees used to ghost us all the time. And not necessarily young employees. We solved that by changing the way we hire. And if the college grads want to know our political positions they won’t get an offer.

This is true and makes it hard to be sympathetic towards the company. You can wAlk into a meeting at any time and walk out unemployed with no severance.

Me and my fellow manager have a running practice when someone puts in a 2 week notice. He automatically assumes they’ll quit within a day or two and I give them at least a week and occasionally finish out the 2. He’s right WAY more than me. Luckily, most of our positions are redundant and it’s not that big of a deal. We’ve had 2 walk out mid day, one take her floating holidays and a Christmas Day pay, then leave her badge on the morning of the 26th.
