Former LSU players' thoughts on Pelini

Former Tigers safety Curtis Taylor recently told The Advocate that Pelini will be LSU’s “next great recruit”, comparing Pelini’s return to the hiring of Brady.
quote:
In that same interview, former LSU linebacker Darry Beckwith, who played under Pelini in 2006 and 2007, said that Pelini “knew how to get the best out of every player”.
quote:
Former Tigers quarterback Matt Flynn recalled to The Advocate that Pelini’s pre-game speeches used to be so incredible that LSU’s offense would often listen in on them. Flynn added “I wouldn’t want to be on the other side of the ball on the first play of the game….there will not be any lack of motivation, I’ll tell you that”.
quote:
After Pelini was fired by Nebraska in 2014, he turned down opportunities to go to the NFL to become a defensive coordinator, in order to take a considerably lower paying job as Youngstown State’s head coach. He went somewhere that meant a lot to him. The fact that Pelini is leaving YSU for a spot on Coach O’s staff tells you how much LSU means to him.
It wasn’t easy for the Youngstown native to leave his hometown. But LSU has that kind of pull on folks

Well, he did get his last monthly, $128k check from Nebraska last February. So, that was the end of the $6 million they owed him.

Of course it's a significant bump, but you managed to gloss over, omit this part:

Luckily he was able to scrape by in 2019 and a position tailored for him landed in his lap.

assistants in the NFL aren't getting yuuge money, going back home was probably therapeutic for him, time to reboot and catch his breath, highly unlikely that someone wouldn't eventually come calling

I’m sure money was a big part in his decision. Who wouldn’t pass an offer of 200k to 2 million.. but I have no doubt he has some P&G blood left in him and will go beast mode again being on. The big stage

I thought YSU new contract was 2 MM per tear?

You left out the part where he turned down the higher paying NFL arse.

Wouldn’t have happened without Les.
This national title wouldn’t have happened without Les bringing in O.

Combination of what YSU and Nebraska was paying him was around $2MM per year. Nebraska portion just ended

WTF?? Are you saying Les should get some credit for the season we just had? GTFO.

Saban got credit for Les's title in 2007 according o many here. IS that not agreed upon logic anymore?
And yes, I'm only half serious

Yeah but people tried to give Saban credit because of the foundation he laid, not because he shite the bed so badly with his stubbornness that he had to be shitcanned.

Thanks for clarifying. I wonder if he would have gotten a new deal at Youngstown.
Either way, I think it was more then money that brought him back to the Tigers and I for one am very happy with the hire.

It doesn't matter what former players think, it's about what current players and future recruits think!!!
