Unfortunately I don’t have a stash of explosives to blow that big bridge.
You don't need to take the whole thing down, just a 10 or 20 foot section of the road deck and you're good. Make sure the section you take out is on the downslope visible from the island so you can see anyone trying to bridge the gap (SWIDT?) and handle them before they can finish.

But even a 20 foot section would need a shitload of explosives. That bridge is stout.

The only ones I’ve ever met in person were wonderful elderly people. I was shocked to accidentally walk into their walk in pantry and see stacks and stacks of giant cans of every food imaginable

That doesn't sound like the go-get-it mentality of someone who's gonna survive when SHTF.

I kinda want to eat a pelican now. It's still ultra against the law, isn't it?

They look like the smart ones now.

A 50lb bag of rice from Costco is $15. It equals food for fix months. Survival is not rocket science. Anything will make delicious sausage
If you have the right spices.

This is a reality check of what a SHTF situation is really like by a guy who survived the Bosnian civil war. It's been excerpted in a lot of places, so you might have seen parts of it.
TL;DR: you probably won't make it. Not even you, Mr. doomsday prepper. LINK

Cigarettes, booze, ammo, antibiotics. High value in a small package.

I wouldn't want to live post Doomsday, so no prepping necessary

sea gulls are more tasty than pelican. kinda like a small chicken

Preppers will run out of bullets defending their food and water.
I think people will have to organize into small clans and neighborhoods, tribes if you will ....consolidate their skills and talents for their own good.
It’ll come down to leadership and people helping people.

Like I have a back up supply of insulin that will last me at least a year.
How are you getting extra? I’m able to get what the doctor prescribes and I can’t get anymore until my prescription is due again. I’m not paying for the stuff with insurance. Stuff is so expensive.

There’s worse things to spend time and money on than a shelter for your family in case of a natural disaster or nuclear attack or whatever

Damn. That is a must read.

I thought those few weeks right after Katrina were an absolute blast.
No annoying people or job to go to. I played the piano a lot, built a fire at night, and watched the idiots who evacuated on a tiny battery-powered TV at night.
When I finally got lonely, I walked down to my old girlfriend's house, which was about 5 miles away. Eventually got my broken car going and drove through all the rubble... I remember driving between the cafeteria and the pond at St. Paul's thinking "you don't get to do this every day."
Modern life kind of sucks compared to that experience.

A post-doomsday situation will not be fun in any way.
