My dad was pretty erratic with a volatile temper,I spent most of my life avoiding him as much as possible. As soon as I graduated high school I joined the Navy to get away.
Years later when all the stuff came out about football players and chronic traumatic encephalopathy I understood why he was the way he was. When he was in high school they had boxing as a sport and he was on the boxing team. Also in the Navy during WW2 each ship had a boxing team and there were matches between the various ships.
At the time it wasn’t known that having adolescent and young men’s brain being pummeled on a regular basis was bad.He died with dementia after a generally unsuccessful life.
I guess what saved me was that both my grandfathers took a special interest in me and taught me valuable life lessons.

OP good thread...great topic.

I think many of us who have become dads probably at 1 point in our life have said "we would never do the things our Dad did or said to us."

Then there's that day you began to say and do as the old man did and realize you've become the old man.

I'm constantly telling my son to clean up ...he forgets a lot of things...and I think "was I like that?" "Is that why the old man yelled?"

My son is really smart and a good student...I'm amazed sometimes how he does it when he loses his wallet, glasses, shoes and so forth...but he manages

He's a sports junkie, reads TD rant and follows LSU recruiting...I'm like "oh crap, you're going to lose so much valuable time to be productive"

He likes what I like...which makes it a joy to watch him grow up....which is happening too fast.

Well then this thread is probably not for you. Sorry not everything is inclusive to everyone.

The moment I realized I was old. So one warm summer morning I step out my front door. Across the street the woman (early 30"s, good body) is mowing her yard. She's wearing short shorts and a midriff baring halter top. Her body glistens with seat. Her sweat causing her top to clinging to her tight taunt body. I look upon this scene and my first thought is, "why is she bagging?" It was at that exact moment I knew I was old.

I’m not there yet. I’ve yet to say “bit dog hollers first” or “boy, you look like a jackass eating briars.”

I hate when memes use improper grammar.

Also, I sound like my dad every day. I love it.

First time I had to shut down an argument with "cause I said so". You can't reason with kids when they want something bad enough that will undoubtedly cause them harm.

"Chase a check. Never chase a bitch."

I find myself repeating that one to my oldest.

Man, I hear my dads voice come out of my mouth all the time. It’s not just the one-liners either, but the tone as well.
