Going forward we take Clemsons approach to commits

Defending National Champs been to 4 and won 3 in the last 16 years. Don’t commit until you are completely shutting it down. If you wanna take other visits then you are not “committed”. I know this has been discussed recently but I feel strongly about it. Agree or disagree?

Risky...what happens when you want to drop a recruit because he committed as a soph and sucked as a jr/sr? You still gonna stay committed to the kid?

Disagree. Dabo only has UGA to worry about in his region and no one in his conference is challenging him. Surrounded by Saban, Kiffin and Fisher, we do not have this luxury. They would do anything they could to swing a visit from a commit to force us to either drop them or prove we’re full of shite. It’s an unnecessary disadvantage in the much more competitive region we’re in.

He also has Mullen in Florida

Clemson is paying extra $ for that policy.

I agree
Risky, if you are a "Risky" program
This is a DESTINATION
You are either in or out....
If you are "IN" then you have no issues with it
If you are "NOT IN" then you aren't going to say "I'm In"

Nope. We aren't doing that. Why do people keep bringing this up like it is something we are going to do?

We need to sign the best players we can get regardless of how nerve racking it is for some of our fanbase. If you cant deal with the ups and downs of following recruiting you should just wait untill after signing day and then check and see how it all went

I think offering a freshman or sophomore a scholarship is retarded.
It is perfectly OK to show interest and continue to show interest, but EVERY SCHOLARSHIP offer should come with a caveat that you have to come to our camp and perform as expected as an athlete AND be a person of high character.
Once offered a scholarship due to ability, the only out for the school should be character issues.
I would tell a recruit to go explore anything and every place you want, but once you make a commitment to LSU we don't expect you to visit elsewhere. At that point if they do, they should know that this would fall under the character issue and I'd pull the scholly. So please don't commit unless you mean it and intend to follow thru with it.

a shakey committment from a freshman or sophmore is better than no commitment. Establishes a close relationship and you can keep on working on him

Dabo has been putting the commit back into commitments. It's a two way street.
The recruit has to abide by their rules, otherwise it isn't a commitment, you broke the bond, and you are out.
Clemson also has a responsibility- they will not accept the commitment unless they TOO are sure, will not process you, will not pull your offer.
They might offer many, but with that offer is a process. You can't accept on twitter. It's a sit down discussion and if they don't feel they are ready, they won't accept it and schedule the next sit down. If they feel the recruit isn't ready, same thing.
If you are #2 on their board and ask to commit, they will tell you #1 has until ______ date. If #1 won't do it. You get a sit down and then pull the trigger.
It's the marketing principle of 'exclusivity' by the way. The repurcussions for the recruit are once you are in, you're in. If you're out and break the rules, you're out. For Clemson, all this is based on the rules and it will all fall apart if they don't hold up their end of the bargain.
The strategy is based on the fact every team knows when offers go out (as Srs) who's the #1 guy they want. You could fill all 25 spots with your #1's. They target them, exclusively and then progress down the line with each slot. Instead of shotgun approach it's very focused and methodical.
The recruit knows where he stands. BUT, and this is the beauty of it, because of the focused/methodical approach- the recruits are on Clemson's timeline. If they are ready for #1 to pull the trigger, he doesn't. On to #2 with no looking back. That way, the recruit can't mess up or dictate strategy.
And let's be honest, you look at classes teams get- top teams- they are full of #2's. #2's are great. You can't predict that the near-5* 4* running back isn't going to be worse or better than the just above-4* 5*. So why bother. All that matters is that you get one of them, and that your not left holding bags.

So lets say you tell your girlfriend she cant have any contact with other guys. No friends. No having lunch with guy friends from work. How long long before she tells you to get fricked or starts banging someone behind your back?
If Coach O enacted that policy we would go from top 5 classes to maybe top 25. Not only that, but why would anyone want to ever make a kid feel like we own you? How would any parent ever believe they can trust their kid with a coach who treats them like a piece of meat? Believe it or not it is still important to want what is best for a kid and his family even if he goes to another school.

Yes I say this should be a two way street. LSU does not take commitments if they are going to “process” them. Once LSU accepts your commitment your in unless academically ineligible

The main problem with your theory is that with infinitesimal exception, there is no such thing as straight guy/ girl friends.
Posted on 1/15/20 at 2:17 pm to BayouCatFan
Those guy friends hanging with your girl-lunch etc, want to bang her. Every. Single. One.

No. If a kid changes his mind what are we gonna do? Force him to come to LSU and make him extremely unhappy? If a kid wants to stay close to him there’s nothing we can do really. I agree that the decommitments are rubbish but If a kid isn’t happy let them go.

That is not how it would work at all:
She can have friends, dates, f#$k nights, etc... but once she is engaged (commits)…. she can still have friends, but your not going to let your fiancé go out on dates or hook up nights.....would you?
