They already were larger than they deserve. It's funny no one saw it that way though. This is a textbook case study in socialism.
The WNBA players didn't deserve what they got based on the market but the ultra rich NBA subsidized them. Will this be enough? Doubt it. They'll be bitching again before too long.

It's kind of the opposite. Whether the NBA is doing this as an investment in quality or as a move to better its PR, it's a private company doing what it feels is most in its interests to do.
Capitalism revolves around private businesses making the decisions they feel are best for their own interests.
