Disney vs Universal

Kids are 8 and 10. We’ve been to Disney twice but was thinking about doing universal this year. How does it compare to Disney? TIA

Universal is cool, rides are more exciting than Disney. If your kids are over the thrill of Disney rides universal would be good. If your kids are still scary about Everest, rock n roller coaster and space mountain. They may not be ready for universal. Stay on property at universal so you get their “fast pass”. Lines weren’t bad at all when we went and I liked it, only really need 1 day per park.

You have to stay at Portofino Bay, Hard Rock, or Royal Pacific to get the unlimited Universal Express. But it’s well worth it.

Outside of Harry Potter world most of Universal doesn’t haven’t that “magical” feeling. So if they are fans of Harry Potter then hell yeah go for Universal. If they aren’t and still enjoy all things Disney then go there.

Do you have boys? If so, they will love Universal. We did a split trip of Disney/Universal and there's no comparison. Disney doesnt offer much for boys, but Universal is right in their wheelhouse. Staying at the Hard Rock makes it too easy and stress free. The longest we waited for rides was five minutes and that was during Memorial Day weekend. I greatly appreciated the complete lack of crying and screaming toddlers at Universal.

The good news, though, is that you get early admission and the unlimited express pass for both the day you check in and the day you check out.
I'm poor, so we stayed our first night an some cheap, generic property in Orlando, and then we got up early the next day, checked into the Royal Pacific, got our express passes and early admission to WWOHP, and were inside the park at 7:30.

The new Star Wars ride at Disney's Hollywood Studios is being touted as the best theme park ride ever made. Whatever you decide, I feel like a day at Hollywood Studios would be money well spent in anyone's book right now.
For me personally, there's no comparison. We only do Universal if we're only going to be in Orlando for a day or 2, and they really didn't have much to offer at all until they added the Harry Potter stuff. Can spend an entire week at Disney and not get bored.

Going to Disney for Mardi Gras and are going to Universal for 1 day (Friday before Mardi Gras). We are purchasing the Express Pass. Have kids, 6 and 2. Is it possible to do both Universal parks in 1 day without sprinting from attraction to attraction?

This will be hard to do, but maybe an Express pass makes it doable.

Stayed at royal pacific last year. Kids had a blast 17, 15,13, 11,and 9. The unlimited universal express usage beats Disney’s fast pass system hands down.
The hotel was great and getting to the parks was simple.

With a 6 and 2 year old you will probably not have to hurry. There are not that many rides for kids that young that would take you a long time. The kids rides usually have no lines.

That's true, but with kid swap you can really ride anything you want. Just not together.
