Because he doesn't call unnecessary press conferences and sticking his nose in business it doesn't belong. If he does stick his nose in it, we don't hear about it. The previous AD had a knack for calling stupid press conferences and coming out of them looking worse than before them.

Why alleva sucks:
Shitty at navigating issues.
Example: Les firing, not firing, then firing.
Example: the Florida hurricane fiasco where we played two straight games away
Example: will wade ordeal
Example: duke rape fiasco
Example: compliance restrictions and behind the scenes athletic support (Woodward excels here)
Joe was also a huge prick. Stand offish and arrogant. Worked with him several times. Woodward is approachable and very friendly

If you knew how to read you’d know that the school still gets money from athletics for specific projects. It’s not the job of the athletics department however to stop the university from going under with a $50 mil per year general payment.
Main reason I’ve liked Woodward so far is that he puts athletics first (as any AD should) and doesn’t cave in to whining/outrage that Alleva/Alexander did to “protect the optics” like in the Will Wade investigation, Les Miles/Jimbo fiasco, Florida hurricane, etc. The link I posted is a perfect example...professor crying about his vacuum after the new football facilities opened up even though athletics makes millions for the academic side. Woodward responds by saying FU and cancelling the program Alleva started that gave the school money to spend on whatever bullshite they wanted instead of specific approved projects like the new system.

One of the main things too is he is renowned for his fundraising skills which leads to things like better facilities

Dude, he seriously just began his tenure at LSU. Incan tell you for a fact that he has his finger on the pulse of this LSU athletic Dept and knows what the donors and fans expect and will do whatever it takes to get it done and meet those expectations. He's going to be a great ad for LSU. Mainly bc he's a lifelong LSU tiger himself and his passion is LSU Athletics, it's not just a job and a paycheck for him. He will be cutthroat when he needs to be and will make the tough decisions when they are needed to be made. His priority is LSU Athletics above anything else...especially personal relationships with coaches and administrators for our athletic teams. He will separate the two and make sure he makes the right decisions in regards to what's best for LSU and not an individual bc he's friend with them. He will also raise a shitload of money for our sports teams and we are going to always be on the cutting edge as far as facilities and resources to to support our programs. Manieri is the one who needs to look out. Woodward isn't going to put up with this mediocre bullshite that he's become accustomed to putting on the field for our baseball team. Woodward is going to fire his arse really soon if this season isn't turned around by manieri...just watch. He knows what our fans are thinking and what we expect and will get the job done.

There's just no excuse for it with the vast fan support, resources, money, and talent that is involved with our programs. We are LS fricking U and Woodward is going to have this athletic department where we all know it should be consistently...winning titles, both conference and national. Just sit back and watch. His hand was more forced with the Jimbo situation. The big money at aTm wanted him and that's what they got.
He does what he has to to get the coaches he wants. Whether that works out or not, he is at least able to get his guy. Plus, he understands the culture of Louisiana. Those are 2 things you can't say about our last AD.

He is very good with aligning everyone within an athletic department and getting them to all pull in the same direction. Great with building relationships with boosters to get money for new projects. Hired Chris Peterson at UW when no one else could pull him from Boise St. I don’t approve of $75 million for Jimbo, but that is what his BOS approved. ADs don’t make hires and money decisions all alone. If you can make a splash hire at whatever amount your bosses approve, why wouldn’t you do it?
