Reading the “have you ever been arrested” thread has me thinking about people’s work lives. Seems a lot of people have been arrested so was wondering how that affects your work life with the background checks these days. I figure an arrest follows you around forever. Will an arrest but no conviction/plea bargain/no contest show up on a background check? How long does a conviction follow you around?

Yes.

Forever, unless you get it sealed or expunged.

Marathon couldnt hire me because I had a misdemeanor in the same county as the facility. That I got 12 years prior. For a PI. As an 18yr old.

I get some companies like to protect themselves from scum like myself but I thought it was a tad ridiculous and so did the recruiter I was in contact with. A

Even with an expungement, arrests will still show up on your record in certain Fields. Furthermore, most companies will ask you to explain them in detail even if charges are dropped or expunged. At least I know this to be the case in finance and law

You can probably add Japan to that list, if your priors are related to the work you do now. They shot me down, and I was going to see someone who was in the navy.

I've always found this a bit odd. It's not smart but I know plenty of otherwise fine, upstanding citizens that have had a single DUI.

I think it is because DWIs in Canada are viewed more along the lines of robbery, assault, and other violent crimes in their judicial system or they may be equivalents of a felony there. Most are just misdemeanors in US.

No,

The DA for the county we got busted for Poker Tourney, laughed at it, and told us we pay $100, it gets wiped off our records. I look every once in a while, not on there.

I've never had an issue with Japan before but I've never stayed there for an extended period of time and it was always on business related events. Bummer they told you no, it's a beautiful country

Public Intoxication. Johnny Law busted up a party and my dumbass parents always told me to be 100% honest with authority. Took my little drunk arse straight to jail.
