A "flex fuel" vehicle has an inline sensor that allows the ECU to read alcohol content of the fuel. The ECU then adjusts timing/AtF accordingly, and then will retard based off knock sensor readings.
There is a small bump in power, but for a stock NA tahoe I doubt it's very noticeable.
