Imagine Iconic Movies with Their Original Intended Cast

Ghostbusters - original intended Cast: Eddie Murphy, John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd
Don't know how well it would have worked with how Murray crushed the role. But it is interesting to think how the movie would have worked had Murphy turned down Beverly Hills Cop and taken the Ghostbuster role along with Murray and Aykroyd.
What other iconic movies do you think would have been interesting with the original intended cast?

Tom Selleck would have been ok as Indiana Jones

Are you also watching Netflix's The Movies that Made us?
Yeah, I had forgotten that Belushi was supposed to be in it and that the original script was an purely sci-fi flick, finding our heroes travel through space and time...and other dimensions. Wow! I'm so happy it turned out like it did!!!!

No, I'm happy that didn't happen. Ford was perfect. Selleck then became Magnum PI, which was also perfect!

The screen tests with Tom Selleck and Sean Young are online and are pretty solid. The only reason he wasn't cast as Indiana Jones is because he was already playing on Magnum PI and CBS wouldn't release him to play the role.
George Lucas was originally dead set on NOT casting Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones because he didn't want Ford to be to him what Robert De Niro was to Martin Scorsese.

Nope. Symbolism aside, Apocalypse Now is a movie about crazy people doing crazy things. Sheen brought a necessary sense of craziness to the role because he is, in fact, a crazy person.

Double, triple, and quadruple nope. I like Pryor, but if he had been in the movie then I wouldn’t have been seeing his character when he was on screen, I’d have been seeing Richard Pryor. It’s just the way he is. And Korman and Wilder are two of the funniest people in recorded history, so you don’t replace them with anyone and expect a better product.

As I recall when they were in the early stages of casting Mel Brooks approached John Wayne about a part in Blazing Saddles but Wayne turned him down because he was trying to do more family friendly movies. By all accounts Wayne did love the script and thought it was going to be a hit.

Sean Young as Catwoman.
Buddy Ebsen as the Tin Man.
Elvis Presley as John Norman Howard in A Star is Born.

I didn't include it b/c there was no way Wayne was going to do the film
BS actually began shooting w/ Gig Young as the Waco Kid. He was fired for alcoholism.
I'm apparently alone in this, but I wish he or some cowboy star had played the role. Wilder is as out of place in the West as Bart. I think Brooks acknowledged this by offering the role to Wayne.

All of this is true, but I stand behind my original comments. Ford and Selleck were perfect in their roles.

Another one I think that would have worked is Jensen Ackles as Hawkeye. He auditioned for the part but I don't know if he was ever seriously considered. He auditioned for Captain America and Starlord too but I don't think he would work in those roles.
Supposedly John Krasinski was the runner up for Captain America. Not sure that would work but he won me over as an action star in 13 Hours.

Ebsen was the Tin Man. He had to be replaced when the silver makeup they used for the character almost killed him.

Could see McQueen in Sheen's role, in fact it upsets me now to think what might have been had he lived....he was a fantastic actor

But in the end having actors like Wilder and Clevon Little in those roles absolutely worked. The fact that they were cast waaaaaaay against type made it that much funnier
