The Redskins hope to complete a deal Monday with Ron Rivera, source says, before any other teams become involved.

Am told Rivera would have total control and final say on Draft. Gives time to evaluate scouting staff. ALL this given unless something in meeting tomorrow goes wrong. #redskins

Geez, why not give Jeff Fisher the job and complete control? They’re the same guy. One Super Bowl loss, a great season or two and mediocrity the rest of the time. The Panthers went to the playoffs in three of the nine seasons where Rivera was head coach.

I’m struggling to see exactly what Ron Rivera did in Carolina that blows everyone away. He’s not exactly known as a good game day coach and Carolina’s defense drastically slipped this season before he got fired.

They had no d line really and injuries
Switching to a 3-4 was the real problem

Good hire. And he’ll most likely end up with Chase Young if he wants him

Not at all sure about their cap situation but get some FA help and they could be a team to watch in a year or two

I don’t understand why he wouldn’t go for the browns job first

Skins also fired Bruce Allen this morning, so Rivera should have more influence on personnel than he would have had in Cleveland.

1 SB appearance, 4 playoff appearances, 3 NFC South titles from 2011-2018.

On par with the Saints during that same stretch.

3 division titles in 9 years.

And yes, it’s the NFC East. Winning the division at 7-8-1 is more than possible.

It's also worth noting that this is not the most attractive job at the moment. A semi-successful retread is about the most the Redskins could realistically expect.

Is it really though? Why is Rivera such a good fit? Must be his ability to completly neuter his MVP QB.

Stability. General competence in a franchise devoid of it.

Redskins don't have one of those. Neither do the Panthers, at this point.

He certainly had many very stable losing seasons. I just don't see it.

So he is going to to better without an MVP QB than with?

He had, arguably, the most dynamic QB in the league for the prime of his career and managed, what, 3 winning seasons?

Doesn't meet my definition of competence.

Will Chase Young show up to the draft? He’s been missing since the Wisconsin game ended...

Uh. The Panthers won quite a bit when Newton was "in his prime" before the injuries took over.

People are also seeming to miss the fact that the Redskins probably have very few better options than Rivera, if any. Marvin Lewis was the other rumored name.
