Any of y’all hunted the lottery hunt yesterday? I have a blind on Wednesday, wanted to know how the birds were.

Got #2. In the past, #1 #2 & #3 have always been good. The water is regulated better on that pond as they do youth hunts on those 3 blinds in the first split so they are always good. The ones on the other side can be hit and miss depending on water level.

The low Wednesday morning is 30 with a north wind, so I am expecting a good morning.

hunted blind 3B (north side of the access road) last year on opening morning of the 2nd split. Did not fire a shot, hardly had any water.

Id recommend accessing the refuge from the west (community of Fifth Ward) and not going down Little California Road from the East (Marksville) side. The road can get really bad from the east end, we saw a couple trucks in the morning from there slid off into the roadside ditch, we tried to help but couldnt, it was a mess.

Hope yall have a better experience.

I have hunted it 4 or 5 times. We have either burned them or haven't fired a shot. I got drawn for this season also in a few weeks for blind 1B so please send reports with how that fields water level looks. If you're in a pit i'd get there a little earlier. They don't brush the blinds and after a few hunts most of the brush is knocked down. Kind of disappointing how little respect most people have for that knowing other hunters will be in that blind. Good luck!

No problem, you will get a report after my hunt! I am trying to call the office to see if they have kill numbers from this past Saturday but no answer yet.

I have had the same experience, you either murder them or don't fire a shot.

This x10000. I live in FW and passed down Little California yesterday to go to Marksville....the road is dry but very rough as you get more toward the east.

After the rain tonight, the road will be horrible for the rest of the week. I glanced toward the open fields and it looks like they could use a little more water, so the rain should help with that.

I've had bad experiences on that road in the past. Will come from the West side.

Thanks for looking out!

I am going Wednesday. With the lottery setup, I also put the Wednesday dates as my 1st preference. I feel like not as many people apply for those dates.

My group also applies for the Wednesday’s first that we are off. We got 3 picks this year including one Saturday. Got 12P this year for one. Will be interested to see what the pits are like. Agree with everyone on the Little California situation. To the east is brutalllll

Also I rode by last month and it looks like they had a pile of something out by #2 almost like they made it a pit. I could be wrong. The blind where it was located faced wrong as most the birds worked behind you and to the right.

Is it facing due north? Wind is out of the north so i have a feeling the birds will be working from our backside on Wednesday.

It faces west which you would think would be perfect as the ducks would come across you to land. We had cold windy day when we hunted it but the ducks just wanted to stay behind us.

They frown upon hunting outside the blind. May have to shoot some while "looking for a bird".

Were you referring to the big fields on the south side of the road? I will be in #2 on the north side.

I looked at both but it seemed that the north had more visible water than the south. Your blind is easy to see from the road.
