It's not complicated. I've supported the idea here since AT LEAST when this was a discussion during the time of Napolean McCallum.
And the reason isn't complicated. The reality is, the subset of academy folks who even have a shot at the pros is tiny. Meanwhile, the PR benefit to the military is great.
Hell, they called David Robinson "The Admiral" till he fricking retired from basketball.
The reality is, very few kids who think they're can't miss will sign with the Academies in the first place. But, occasionally, you'll get a surprise kid and the benefits of the Trump position here GREATLY outweigh the cost.
Hell. David Robinson grew 7 inches after arriving at the Naval Academy. shite happens that no one sees coming.
