and looking back over his stats and records. There will never be another professional player that dominates their sport like he did hockey. It’s not even close.

The game changed too much to allow for it.

If he never scored a goal he would still be the all time points leader

But he scored 894 goals

Team sports and individual sports must be separated imho. All I know about hockey is the “miracle on ice” when I was about five or six years old and my grand dad being elated we beat the Russians.

What tiger did from 1999-2001 will never be matched.

And that's an individual sport.

Well if we’re gonna derail OP’s thread then I’ll add that Joe DiMaggio’s record of 56 consecutive games with a hit will never be broken.

Ovi might be the only hockey player we ever see have a chance at catching his goals record. And even he has a 0.5% chance

That can happen. Pete Rose was 11 games shy.

Of the Top 10 most goals in a season in the NHL, Gretzky occupies 4 of those seasons including the Top 2.

The closest modern player to Gretzky's 92 goals is Ovechkin at 65.

Gretzky from 1981-1986 is the most dominate one player has been over his competition in a team sport.

If hockey was bigger in the US back then and not regional and if Gretzky was American he'd have been bigger than Jordan.

The L.A. Kings went from having two guys in the stands to sellout crowds once Gretzky showed up in 1988.
