Wasn't talking about what he said about it being harder...I mean generally coming out late in life, divorcing your spouse etc.

Depends on the situation but most men I've known who came out later in life said they waited so long because they didn't want to frick up their kid's life. To me, that's pretty selfless. I also think that in the short term while divorce may be painful, it's less painful (for both parties) than going through the next 20-30 years in a loveless and unfulfilling marriage.
