How about you go in the woods and cut a long branch that has a Y at the end of it.
We have two at our camp that we found in the swamp. We shaved the bark off and been using them for years.

I bought an aluminum push pole from a boat builder in Covington. It is 10ft, powder coated with a fixed foot for $95. Used it last weekend and it is very solid.

They make excellent crawfish net pulling handles as well. Just swap out the push pole foot with a hook and you're gtg.

Gus' has the 10' aluminum poles with a fixed bill for $60.
