I believe that Gentry will not be the coach next year. I know I've said this before, but I believe it to be true this time.

So let's chat. I would like this to be a season long, all encompassing thread discussing everything about what or who our next HC needs to be.

Are there guys that you are particularly interested in? Name names!

What do you prefer? NBA assistants? Former Head Coaches? College coaches?

What kind of system or philosophy do you want for the future of this team?

There's a lot to talk about here and I'd love to have an active discussion on the topic from ANY angle you guys choose to want to discuss.

So...fire away!

There's a lot that could go here, but my initial feeling is that i'd like a relatively young up-and-comer that matches our young up-and-coming roster.

Im gonna be highly pissed off, as I was with Gentry, if Woj reports we're interviewing some washed up retread.

Just to get it started, two names of interest:

Jamahl Mosley -- Assistant with the Mavericks. He was in charge of player development for awhile and is now in charge of their defense I believe. He coached under George Karl for awhile and has spent the past 5 years under Carlisle, a coach I have tremendous respect for. He is a very well thought of assistant.

Adrian Griffin -- Lead assistant in Toronto and considered an excellent defensive coach. He has interviewed for a bunch of jobs and not gotten them, but he is a very well thought of assistant, and I think pretty highly of how consistent the Raptors have been over the years.

this was the question asked in 2015. AD was a budding young superstar so the question was - do you go with someone that has been around the game? or do you go with something new & fresh?

for me, at this point, I'm looking for an upcoming HC rather than a SVG or Lionel Hollins

problem is, the only real up and coming candidates I know are Becky Hammon, Ettore Messina, Alex Jensen, & David Vanterpool.

I like Ime Udoka. Young guy who took over for Monty Williams as the lead assistant in Philly after spending years under Pop in San Antonio.

Nate Tibbetts is another guy i like. Assistant in Portland.

I'm sure there are many more "up and comers" than that (heck I listed two above), and someone like Griffin or particularly Langdon will have a finger on the pulse of this.

It would be interesting to look at a list of guys Langdon or Griffin have worked with or interacted with in the past.

Interesting because I see one of the other Portland Assistants, Vanterpool, throw around a LOT.

I have no idea who I’d want, but I know what I don’t want. I don’t want a former head coach, and I don’t want a woman.
I want someone who’s going to be very detailed oriented in everything he does, practice included. No “players coach” that gives guys to much freedom in everything. It’s a job. Treat it like one. You want to have fun? Then win. Winning is fun.

Agreed.

I mean...who cares as long as it isn't a gimmick hire? If she is just as deserving as anyone else it doesn't matter.

Doesn’t matter who it is. It’s a gimmick. Call me chauvinistic all you want. I don’t want a woman head coach. Coaching is more than in game Xs and Os and I don’t think a woman can relate to the players outside of games.

Will Weaver. Langdon loves him.

Langdon and Weaver won G-League Exec and Coach of the year last year. Weaver took the Sydney Kings HC job in Austrailia this year, who Didi is playing for now. Thats definitely not a coincidence. And fwiw, the Kings are the best team in that league.

I'm not sure he'd leave Australia after just one year but that HAS to be a name at the top of the list, if we're just speculating right now.

Just the little bit I read it said the Sydney Kong’s job is the best in the NBL and he supposedly signed a long term deal.

He sounds like the type of coach I’d want.

Yeah, it also looks like he's gonna be one of Brett Brown's assistants on the Australian national team. Don't know if he'd wanna mess up that AU connection and leave after just one season, but who knows.

Maybe Langdon, Zion, Ingram, Didi coming over with him, could persuade him.

Had the best team in the g league before losing in the finals and now has the best team in Australia.

FWIW I wouldn’t be too shocked if that happened. I think Griff’s relationship with Gentry could go a long way.

I mean you may not want Gentry but you don’t want to just fire Gentry to hire the next “Gentry” just because you need something new.

While I don’t think Gentry will here next season, I also hope Griff doesn’t try to force a new coach. I hope he is patient enough to find the right one. Even if that means Gentry is on the Pels bench next season too
