They stated Dantoni waited too long.
I thought he DID challenge the call. They just didn't allow his challenge. Then when they realized that he was right, they said he waited too long.

Did you not read the explanation in the OP
quote:
It is a reviewable matter, but you have a window of 30 seconds to challenge the play during the timeout that he had and while they were protesting the call, trying to get clarification of it, that window passed

Seems to me that that, in and of itself, is challenging the call.

He did not wait too long.
1 side says they did it in time, the other says they did not.

utterly embarrassing. wow. I never been more disappointed in the rockets franchise. Protesting and ref blaming go hand in hand to me and I can never get on board with either one.

Arguing a call and throwing the red flag (I know NFL reference but still) are two different things

But you have to know WHY a call was made before you can protest it, right?

Referees across all sports at all levels have become a joke. But they cry when coaches argue with them, and post facebook videos of them walking off the field when someone calls them short, but they deserve every bit of criticism they get.
Are you really trying to compare a little league baseball ump that makes maybe $25 a game to NBA refs? I agree that officials at all levels are not held accountable for bad calls but this is just a stupid take. Count me in the group that would not officiate kid's sports because of the abuse from parents and coaches that think their kid isn't going to be offered a D1 scholarship because of a little league official missing a call.

The call was no basket, if he felt it went in, then challenge. What do you need to clarify, they said no basket? That's all you need to know, as a coach if you know you have a 30 second window, and you know it went it and you know the ref said you do not get 2 points, that is more than enough information needed to challenge within the 30 second window.

This is absolutely fricking retarded on the refs part

He had enough info to challenge IMO.
He thought the ball went in, his team did not get 2 points.

quote:that's is a massive overreaction. get a grip. furthermore, it's not the refs fault that the window to review is so narrow.
All the referees involved should be suspended 25 games.

Watch the video, read the own refs words on what happened. Houston immediately starts arguing and discussing the call with the ref. There is no fricking challenge flag in basketball, you challenge a play by discussing it with the ref. The 30 second window for anyone with common sense would be met as long as the coach starts the dialogue in this window. The fact this braindead ref is saying it was "challenged too later" (thats his own words ), while houston is immediately arguing the call with him, is something only you and maybe slackster could support

I heard on the radio this morning that Houston requested the NBA have a "redo."
Sure, right after they redo all of those games where Harden got the refs to call bullshite fouls.

Houston immediately starts arguing and discussing the call with the ref.

quote:What? They may have some specific, designated way to do it but you challenge a play by saying probably something along the lines of "Challenge that play" not by just "discussing" it with the ref.

It was the heat vs hawks. Shaq got awarded a 6th foul he didn't have.
Yes but that wasn't replayed b/c the refs blew a call. The Atlanta in house stat keeper screwed up and gave Shaq an extra foul. The last 51 second were replayed because the error was on Atlanta's staff and it aided them in the win. It was also the second time that season the Atlanta stat crew had fricked up so most thought the NBA was sending teams a message to make sure their stat crews had their shite together.

What if the egregious error occurs midway through the 1st quarter, is there a rule against restarting that early?

Probably Harden dunking the ball and not getting 2 points for it, don't you think?
"He dunked it. Where's the point?"
"Ball came back through. Basket interference."
"No, it didn't."
"OK, then it was goaltending on Harden."
"No, it wasn't. I challenge the call."
"Sorry, your time is up. You can't."
