Thoughts?
I think it is spot on but many here believe the 2019 version of ‘capitalism’ is good.

I just watched it. I think Paul is making a call. I wouldn't want to be Tucker, but he probably has decent security already.

capitalism is good. “vulture” capitalism, as tucker called it, is evil.

Yes very disturbing to me. Used to drive from Colorado to Sidney just to go to Cabela's back in the 90's with my Dad....I'm all for capitalism but it can go too far when it destroys communities via hedge fund greed. But our system is set up to drive cost efficiency regardless of the human costs

Many on here don't believe that is representative of the "2019 version of capitalism".

Those Cabela folks do not like Paul Singer ... and for good reason.

Huh?

I see this as part of unfettered capitalism that is not ethical.
The ability to be rich shouldn't come at the expense of laying waste to that many people's livelihoods. That's not building a better widget or developing a better service, what he and people like him are doing is just wrong.

I agree with this as well. I watched it and it burns me up that towns are buried like this. I'd fight Singer right now if I could just for the frick of it

Seems like Ben Sasse was more than just collateral damage of that segment.

Unfortunately, I don’t think this is an isolated incident or story. The end of the segment, calling out Sasse, highlights the main problem. The ‘2019 version of capitalism’ is making enough money to buy influence in DC and you are set.

It's not necessarily a general capitalism problem, it's a specific problem with big private equity groups in this country. As Tucker pointed out, Singer's tactics are illegal in other countries. Too much power and influence.

The aspect that Tucker does not understand, and people fail to realize in these situations, is that the never-ending pursuit of shareholder returns dictate this. I'm not commenting on whether or not that's good or bad. Bur for anyone in this thread that disagrees with this happening, feel free to liquidate your 401(k) or child's college fund, or don't take your pension when you retire. Because you have benefited from this exact dynamic numerous times whether you realize it or not.
The second point is that Tucker likes to evoke the ever-powerful imagery of blight and socioeconomic decay in small-town and rural America. I don't disagree that it is a depressing concept. But automation and outsourcing are the predominant reason for this, especially in the rust belt. The maturation of our economy, and transition to other energy sources (whether artificially impelled by the government or not) has certainly not helped the coal industry either. Sometimes it's the albatross of unionization affecting an industry like the auto sector. There are lots of factors in play here, ascribing it simply to evil vulture capitalists like Mitt Romney is lazy "journalism" at best.

Tucker went balls in on Ben Sasse and I suspect old Ben is about to get a serious wake up call in Nebraska tonight.

Ben Sasse and Paul Singer contributed, in the Sidney case, of the worst excesses of crony capitalism.
Ted Cruz, and believe it or not, Bernie Sanders both railed against crony capitalism in 2016. As Cruz would say on the Stump "Bernie and I agree on the problem, but his solution is MORE GOVERNMENT to fix it, which is the fundamentally wrong answer".
Crony capitalism is wrong, and it is as much of a shite-taking on the middle class as is illegal aliens overrunning our schools and hospitals, and our shitty insurance options due to Obamacare.

Claim your high ground. The VC firm talked them into selling to them, they didn't go looking for money.

Would that be the same Cabelas people who over reached, hire shitty employees who have no clue what they’re doing, and offer very little of the free training to those same ignorant employees that the manufactures offer?
Look I hate what has happened to Cabelas but this is self inflicted from 10-15 years of bad management. Cabelas was once a great outdoors brand but Dick Cabelas ran the company into the ground before the hedge funds got involved.

Check out the railroads and PSR. (Precision Scheduled Railroading)
The rails are hauling less traffic, by choice, and pulling more money out for dividends.
It won't end well.

I just watched it. It's great.
I'm a big (millenial) Trump supporter and realize that socialism would be terrible for the US. However, if shite like is allowed to continue happening we will get socialism a lot sooner than some may think.
Hedge funds are all run by lunatics that have no regard for anything but money. Them and the massive PE firms like Blackstone are pushing people into the arms of socialism by the thousands every day. We need to stop them before it's too late.
